Harper Woods Veterinary Hospital is a full service veterinary facility comprised of a modern hospital, surgical unit, radiology department and on-site laboratory. We emphasize preventive care whenever possible to ensure a happy, healthy and long life for your pet. We offer physical examination, vaccinations, heartworm and parasite prevention, senior wellness programs, and spay & neuter services.

Dr. Balaj is a 1987 graduate of Michigan State University who has expertise in advanced surgical procedures, laser surgery, and oncology, including chemotherapy. He joined Harper Woods Veterinary Hospital in 1987. Dr. Pillsbury graduated from Michigan State University in 1993. Dr. Pillsbury is an excellent surgeon, and has a special interest in Low Intensity Therapeutic Laser techniques.

The front office staff are kind and go out of their way to help get your pet the care they need. Dr. Dexter is amazing! After a long hiatus, we came in today and Dr. Dexter (who has never met my cat before) acted like we were lifelong patients. Dr. Dexter's bedside manner is impeccable, her recommended course of diagnostics and treatment is not pushy, and she explains things in a way a common person can easily understand. We greatly appreciate all the staff at HWVH.

I have been bringing my cats here for about 5 years or so. They have always been wonderful in the past and the staff was so kind. Recently my husband and I have brought one of our kitties here for a procedure and a general check up and the desk staff have been incredibly rude every time I had called and to my husband when he was in the office. The vet was great, but the admin staff just unnecessarily awful. Very short and very rude in their tone speaking to us on separate occasions. I don’t see myself being back here because of that.

I think this is one of the best veterinary hospitals around this area! Dr. Balaj runs a tight ship everybody knows their job and things run efficiently.
I have been taking my pets here since 1970 and in all that time I have been able to stick with two veterinarians. The first retired after many years and now I've been with Dr. Balaj for just as many years.He is not only knowledgeable, he's caring, and he's understanding most of all knowing the importance of your pet in your life. There is no doubt you're in good hands when you go to Harper Woods Veterinary Hospital!
