Providence Aikikai is a traditional Aikido dojo, founded in 2011. Its Chief Instructor, David Halprin 7th dan, is a student of Mitsunari Kanai Sensei, 8th dan, and studied with him for twenty-seven years.
Kanai Sensei, Chief Instructor of New England Aikikai in Cambridge, was one of the last group of uchideshi (live-in students) of O-Sensei (Aikido's founder), and studied under the Founder for ten years before being sent to teach Aikido in the US.Providence Aikikai instructors and students were under the direct technical supervision of Kanai Sensei and now are among those who are continuing to practice Aikido according to his teachings.

I recently moved from out of state and wanted to continue my Aikido training. It is a relief to be able to find a dojo where the quality of training and the quality of people is so high! There's a range of experience-levels in each class, creating a good balance between veterans and new students. The instructors are skillful and welcoming. As long as I'm in Providence, I'll continue to return to this dojo to study Aikido.

Providence Aikikai is associated with Framingham Aikikai, the dojo of David Halprin and Barbara Britton. Both David and Barbara are Shihan, "teachers of teachers" – some of the highest ranked aikido practitioners in North America. Nothwithstanding this, they are down-to-earth, warm and encouraging instructors of aikido who help students at every level develop. Having trained aikido for 12 years, I have seldom seen such attention and care for every single student on the mat, regardless of the student's level of experience or level of physical fitness. This is really how aikido should be taught

This is a great dojo. The community is friendly and welcoming, but also respects the traditional practices of Japanese martial arts. The quality of martial practice is very high. A mix of beginners, long-time students, Yudansha, and a variety of very senior instructors make this one of the few Aikido dojos in the area that can boast of a healthy dojo eco-system. Many other dojos, although they may have great integrity of their practice, suffer from having too few beginners or too few advanced students or to few instructors or are otherwise poorly attended or unbalanced.
