Following a 1965 childcare survey in Northfield, Open Door Nursery School (now Open Door Preschool) was formed as a non-profit corporation. The Congregational Parish House was selected as the school's first site, and Mrs. Ginny Butler and Mrs. Dorothy Pfoutz were hired as teachers. Open Door's founders believed that preschool should be accessible to all children.

Report
Open Door Preschool offers consecutive class days to reduce the "transition" time each time they meet, play and fun are the focus of instruction and they take what they learn inside outside through partnerships with the colleges. The teachers instilled self-confidence and independence in my high energy boys. They let them explore, play and directed their interests to academic subjects. They are phenomenal and very patient!
