The New York Mortgage Coalition has received funding from Enterprise Community Partners to launch a Real Estate Appraiser training program to help diversify an industry that is overwhelmingly over age 50, white and non-racially/ethnically diverse.

The New York Mortgage Coalition (NYMC) is a nonprofit collaboration of financial institutions and community housing agencies focused on expanding the opportunity for responsible and sustainable homeownership to minority, and low and moderate income individuals and families in the five boroughs of New York City, as well as the surrounding counties of Nassau, Suffolk, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, and Westchester.

In 1993 a group of visionary bankers in New York decided to put aside competitive differences to work collaboratively in addressing community reinvestment. What they created was a coalition of nonprofit housing counseling agencies working in concert with mission-driven lenders to help low and moderate income families become homeowners for the first time.
Through the extensive pre-purchase counseling programs of our community groups, NYMC reaches over 3,000 individuals and famililes considering their first home purchase. Our lenders provide competitive fixed-rate loans which include closing cost and down payment subsidies on a need basis.

NYMC comprises financial institutions and community-based housing counseling groups working together to increase affordable homeownership throughout the Greater New York region.Becoming a Participating NYMC Lender: NYMC's community groups are supported by the generous annual contributions of our member banks.
The New York Mortgage Coalition's homeownership counseling program gives potential homeowners access to 11 nonprofit, HUD-Approved housing counseling agencies and lenders that offer competitive, fixed-rate mortgages which may include closing cost grants and downpayment assistance subsidies.

NYMC housing counseling agencies provide home buyer education - both financial and housing education - year-round in all five boroughs as well as Suffolk County, Nassau County, Westchester County, Orange County, Putnam county, Rockland County and Dutchess County.

Since 1993, NYMC has provided homebuyer education to over 53,000 households and helped over 10,000 New Yorkers purchase their first home.
A: It depends. NYMC Homebuyer Education Training takes place over 5 weeks with one two-hour workshop per week. Our partner agencies offer similar training key aspects of buying a home including money management, understanding credit, choosing a home, types of mortgage loans and the available affordable housing programs.
