Services
Highlands Animal Hospital is the first and oldest veterinary clinic in Highlands County. Doctor Frank Handley started the practice in the mid-1950's and the initial clinic was located in a home approximately 1/2 mile North of our present location. Doctor Handley and his family lived in the back of the home and ran the clinic out of the front.
We like to think of ourselves as a family. Most of our staff have been with us for years, and we consider ourselves to be an integral part of our neighborhood, your neighborhood. Oh, and the dapper looking fellow on the right - he's Darryl, our clinic mascot. Darryl likes to greet our friends, both old and new, so he'll be waiting to see you as well.
We accept appointments and walk ins for urgent care/emergent issues during our business hours. Our staff and hospital are trained and equipped to deal with common pet emergencies. For after hours emergencies, we recommend Veterinary Healthcare Associates in Winter Haven. They offer 24 hour care and specialty referral care.

After having our dog seen for years, it was her time to go. We were very upset and were even more distraught after taking her in for her final moment only to be told we would be charged for an office visit and tests!!!! My dear Pandora was 14 and was in great pain and ready to go. Shame on you for making a very difficult time even more traumatic. We took her to another vet and they were amazingly kind and sympathetic.
