Discover Kung Fu
It is our intention to bring quality Hung Gar Kung Fu and Yang Tai Chi to the Northern Virginia Area. Discover Kung Fu is committed to harnessing a strong one-to-one student-teacher relationship that focuses closely on individual needs and goals. There are no large classes, only elite private and semi-private small group classes are taught.

No kids, no minors, no distractions - adults only. Whether you are the serious martial arts enthusiast exploring a path to self-defense and fitness, or you are seeking place of peace to destress, such as ancient Chinese meditation in motion, then Discover Kung Fu can help. We have a rich lineage and we are dedicated to quality instruction as well as promoting traditional Kung Fu and Tai Chi arts into society.
Services
Hung Gar is a high-intensity "power" discipline at its root. This is why it offers an excellent starting point for real martial arts and self-defense training. Stance training is extremely important to develop strong leg muscles, maximize stability and expand mental discipline. A sound structure and position advantage is the humble start and end of our style.
If you're looking for modern tai chi as a soft and relaxed exercise of mind with graceful fluid movements, then this is the class for you. Tai Chi Meditation in Motion is about exploring peace and harmony without the focus of a martial arts tradition. This class is designed to help the highly stressed American, wherever they are at in their lives.
In my view, kung fu is an inherited spirit that one must eventually discover on their own. One inherits this skill through proper instruction and personal drive. Yes, you acquire the technical skill-set and discipline, but most importantly, you acquire the essence or the spirit of the art. While it is difficult to find genuine instruction in kung fu, authentic traditions are still out there.
Silver offers a recommended up to 8 small group lessons in one selected program discipline per month. Choose this option if and when you are ready to put in the minimum time and effort to attend regular and frequent instruction. Gold Memberships give you the added edge in training over the recommended amount for the highly dedicated.

For the past 22 months, I have now had the privilege (twice per week) of studying tai chi as a martial art with Sifu Dan. During the classes, we have worked on both internal and external concepts. I very much appreciate Sifu Dan’s intuitiveness (as to what is most beneficial to each student’s progress) and ability to describe, demonstrate and explain concepts in more than one way. Solely because of the internal work that he has done with me, I am now much better able to calm my mind and body and this has given me much more peace and clarity in my life. For those who think tai chi is easy, it

This please is a joke. If you really want to learn Authentic Kung Fu I recommend you go to a place where the the instructor is a Shaolin Kung Fu master. I've been here for almost three weeks without learning anything. We just repeating the same thing over and over. Unless you just want to have fun then this is for you.

I have only been studying with Sifu Dan a little over a year now, but the experience has already changed my life in many positive ways. Sifu Dan has a gift for teaching which you benefit from right away; especially with the smaller class sizes. My health and wellness have improved along with my confidence and self-esteem. The skills I am learning in Kung Fu translate to all areas of my life. I highly recommend it!

I started training with Sifu Dan 5 months back. Let us say I was not in the best of shape but was enthusiastic. Sifu Dan is one of the teachers that you come across in a while who are dedicated and patient and take great joy in teaching their skills. He makes sure that each class takes you once step further in your skills and conditioning and sets you up for lifelong learning and mastery.
I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to learn Kung Fu in the Nova region.

I have been training with Sifu Dan for the past several years. He has a great personalized training style. He is extremely clear & concise in instructions; very patient; and communicates clearly. The training is done in a very safe manner. Sifu is not trying to prove how tough and/or knowledgeable he is. Rather, he wants to make sure each student understands the correct way to learn and perform the art.

I leave each lesson learning new skills and insights.

Would give him more than 5 stars if that was an option!

I've been studying Hung Gar with Sifu Dan for about ten years, and it's been a fantastic experience. I tried other martial arts before: I earned a 1st Dan in The Kwon Do in high school and tried some Karate dojos in college, but I've never had a better teacher or a more authentic experience.
If you come for a sash or a certificate, you'll be disappointed. What you'll find instead will be deep teaching, years of hard work, and the kind of insight that comes from dedicated self-cultivation.
(You'll learn some pretty sweet Kung Fu moves, too.)

A valuable gem in the world of martial arts that you will not find anywhere else. I could not recommend this opportunity more. Sifu Dan provided exactly what I was looking for. He outlined the beginnings of a journey of dedicated practice to obtain valuable skills.
His teachings showed me very much about myself at a very difficult time in my life, it was more than the translation of decades of work and experience. It is still something I practice and learn from today.

Having studied martial arts in a variety of different formats and with several different instructors over the past 15 years, I believe that Sifu Dan provides the optimal environment for the cultivation of the martial arts. If one is studying academics such as mathematics or literature, learning is fairly straight forward and the choice of teacher is not overly important. However, true cultivation of martial arts is a deeply personal journey in which knowledge is transmitted from teacher to student. Each student learns differently and the concepts are often very subtle requiring a unique skill set
