Kater Floors was started in 1962 with the idea that hardwood flooring would one day surpass carpeting as the choice of floor coverings in homes around Chicagoland. At that time, the business specialized in hardwood floor installation and refinishing only. Over the years, we have expanded into many other floor coverings including stone, tile, marble, slate, and pre-finished flooring.
The business was originally located in Wilmette, IL, later moving to to Glenview, IL as the central location to serve those in the existing community. As the business grew so did the radius of communities we service, we are now proud to service more then 75 communities around Chicagoland while still being located in beautiful Glenview, IL.

Kater Floors was recommended to me by a friend who had used them. Good friend! I think many of us approach hiring help for a home project with a bit of trepidation. I can tell you no need for any concern using Kater.
I am so pleased with the work they did for me. Removal of carpeting and refinishing of the wood floor underneath. Prompt, easy to talk to, respectful, excellent work and soooo neat. I think my house was cleaner after they finished than when they arrived!

Kater floors was great. Phil and team are super responsive and professional. We used them to buffer/clean up the hardwood and bathroom tiles on a new property we purchased. There were a few imperfections, and Phil was quick to send the team back out the next day to make things right. We would strongly recommend Kater floor service.

We used Kater Floor many years ago and the work was perfect. We moved into a new old house this Spring and used Kater again to refinish and stain floors in some rooms and install new floors in two other rooms. The work by the new generation was just as perfect as that done years ago.

I found Kater Floors through their excellent reviews on Nextdoor, as well as an acquaintance had used them with rave reviews. Every aspect of our job exceeded expectations. We had a refrigerator leak while we were out of town and it ruined part of our hardwood floors. They came and removed the damaged boards, let them dry out and replaced them in a timely manner. At our request, they came back a month later while we on vacation to do the staining of our floors. Because I wanted to change the color of our floors, they came out prior to the job and put down 4 different colors so we could see how

We are so pleased with the tile work done on our kitchen floor! Ben and Josh are extremely talented and perform meticulous work. From the floor demo to the new install, they worked so hard. And, it's such a plus to have personable and friendly tradesmen in your house. They cleaned up each day and kept us updated on their progress. The tile work is perfect, level and very attractive. We are really glad we hired Kater Floor Service to re-tile our kitchen floor.

We recently had them out to our home to remove carpeting and replace it with LVT and Oak flooring on the stairs. The stairs were completed with the fit and finish of master craftsmen, it is absolutely beautiful! The removal of the carpeting and floor prep is usually disgusting and messes up the rest of the home. The crew at our home kept the mess to an absolute minimum and at the end of the day the project area was clean and organized. The best compliment I can say is that they knew the project, timing, and scope of project. The best part is we paid what we were quoted and had no overages

Kater installed around 600sq.ft. of hardwood flooring in my home ( three rooms ). Extremely knowledgeable, EXTREMELY CLEAN, high attention to detail (installation was immaculate ), flexible with my schedule.
They will move your furniture and assemble it once they're done - which was HUGE for us, since we are in the middle of renovation. So thank you for that!!

I knew going into this project that all the floor scratches would not come out with a cleaning and buffing, but they led me to believe some would and the floor would at least look shiny again. The floor looks worse, even though they came back out and took off the wax they put on, which they were not supposed to do in the first place. The floors look horrible and they are in my parents home who are 91 and 93 and they are sick about it.
I should have just left well enough alone or listen to the other companies that came out and not touched them.

We needed both bathroom floors to be totally redone. They helped us in understanding the work, the options in selecting the flooring, and the schedule. They were trustworthy in accessing our home. They even identified an issue that had caused some of the problem in one of our floors and accommodated that fix within their schedule. The floors look great! We will choose them for future flooring work.
