Sleepy Hollow Preschool has been nurturing the development of children in Northern Virginia for 70 years!. As a cooperative preschool, we are founded on the belief that children benefit when their parents have a hands on role in their child's education. We have created a community of caring teachers and parents who all support students as they grow.
DEBBIE BROWN, Director (and alum parent!) It brings me great joy to be the Director of a program that has been committed to learning through play and spending part of every day outside since 1949! Through its years, Sleepy Hollow has stayed committed to knowing that young children learn best through play.
Our cooperative preschool environment provides Northern Virginia families the opportunity to learn through play together!. Choosing a cooperative preschool is a personal investment in your child's education.
SHPS involves parents in the classroom, models positive discipline techniques, demonstrates appropriate behavior expectations, and shows parents how an understanding of children's developmental ages and stages can inform successful parenting practices. We have a diverse group of families in our membership, and encourage all families to apply.

Each year, in and around the Annandale area, the Annandale Award Program chooses only the best local businesses. The companies chosen exemplify the best of small business; often leading through customer service and community involvement. In 1995, Debbie Brown was named by Child Magazine as one of the America's Ten Outstanding Preschool Teachers.
As a cooperative preschool, SHPS has the good fortune to attract members who have a keen interest in participating in and contributing to their children's education. While the primary vehicle for this involvement is usually co-oping in the classroom, every family also has the opportunity to bring its special talents and interests to the school by serving on one of our many committees.

This school is an amazing community full of loving teachers and staff. Our child has blossomed incredibly since coming to this school. The teachers craft age appropriate learning experiences that further the children's world and deepen their lives. I'm in love with the play-based philosophy and structure that is so intentional.

My children attended this preschool and our whole family loved it. The teaching staff and director are amazing, and even though they promote "learning through play", the curriculum underlying all the play is really well thought-out. Sleepy Hollow has a "pretend room" (decorated in themes like a space shuttle, the Olympics, and a hospital) that is updated every few weeks. Also, the 3s & 4s classrooms are all opened for a portion of the school day and the children can choose which room to play in on a daily basis. Our kindergarten teachers said they could really tell which children had the benefit
