In a word, choosing a cooperative preschool is all about involvement. Parents are in the classroom supervising, interacting, and participating on a regular basis. It quickly becomes less about making snacks and homemade playdough and more about making memories, friends, and a personal investment in your child's education.
If you are looking for a preschool in Fairfax County, you have a difficult decision ahead of you. There are many important factors to weigh: the right fit for your child, the right fit for your family, your lifestyle, and even your commute. Finding the right preschool in Fairfax County takes a bit of research, time, and soul-searching.

In 1947, a group of parents met to organize a cooperative preschool. They believed that using their own time, talents, and abilities could provide a superior school where both the children and parents would benefit from their close interaction.
With the cooperation of the Northern Virginia Council of Cooperation Preschools (now the Virginia Cooperative Preschool Council), the Annandale Cooperative Preschool opened in the fall of 1947 using toys, furniture, and playground equipment built by the parents.Through the years, additional classes were added to provide two-year-olds (and their parents) a chance to learn through play.

At Annandale Cooperative Preschool, "learning through play" isn't just something we say; it's something we do, and we do it every day. We believe a child's mind is much more receptive to learning when they are a part of the process and when that process is fun. It is why we have a variety of free-choice and teacher-led options built into our curriculum.
A cooperative preschool lives and breathes with parent participation, and, like so many things, you'll get out of your experience at Annandale Cooperative School what you put into it. Well, in some part, that's completely up to you. Yes, there are required meetings, committee assignments, work parties and co-oping responsibilities.
Tuition is paid from September to May on the first of every month. The May tuition and the insurance/activity fee are paid in advance of the school year as a deposit. We offer a discount to families with more than one child in the school in the same school year. The oldest child's monthly tuition is paid at full price, and the family receives a 10% discount off the monthly tuition of each additional child enrolled.

Annandale Cooperative Preschool has been home to our family for going on 3 years and has provided a warm and caring environment for our son to grow in. The teachers are all amazing and carry a background in early childhood education. In addition, the learning through play philosophy of the school fits our child's needs and growth perfectly. I can't begin to describe how much the school becomes a place you're happy to be going to in the morning.

Annandale Coop has a beautiful campus in the forest full of thoughtful and caring people. Our two year old son has looked forward to going every week since he started six months ago. The teachers go above and beyond the call of duty to communicate with parents, and the play philosophy is perfect for young children.
