Services
Detroit Lakes Animal Hospital is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care. We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local practices when special diagnostic procedures are required.
I am currently employed as a Certified Veterinary Technician at DLAH. I graduated from Ridgewater College in Willmar, MN in May of 2019 and have been employed here since then! I grew up in Wadena, MN but currently reside in Hawley, MN. I enjoy being outdoors, going on adventures and exploring new places with my best friend, Murphy, who is pictured in the photo with me.
Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. Yearly Annual Exams & Vaccinations: Our hospital not only takes care of your pets when they are sick, but also makes sure they stay healthy with a yearly exam & vaccinations.
James K. McCormack, DVM grew up in Salem, WI. I graduated from the U of MN with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1984. I began working at the Detroit Lakes Animal Hospital in December of 1984. I enjoy spending time at the lakes with my wife, Diane and Archer our furry son and traveling when time permits.
To allow ample time for all patients and scheduled surgical procedures, we operate primarily by appointment. Emergency cases shall always receive top priority, which is why occasional appointment delay is inevitable. Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time. For your convenience, "drop-off" appointments are available.

Got me in same day I called. Staff was great, especially the assistant, she even remembered my kids when they hadn't been with in long time. She was also very good with my dog, which is a must! Had different Dr, she explained things well. Also was a different lady at front desk which was Good, friendly! Thank you for the good visit!

We just came from here to try to get our new kitten seen at the emergency care at 3:10 on a Friday...If I'm not mistaken they say online they close at 5:30. When we got there we we were greeted outside by a lady whom we asked if it was the emergency care? She replied in similar words that yes but we aren't taking any more on today (in a crabby unprofessional voice). "I have two things going on right now." There was two vehicles outside. She wouldn't even look at us.
Im not one to write negative reviews but this was terribly unprofessional.
If you are going to be a vet that deals with emergencies

We needed our dog's vaccination records on a moment's notice when we were traveling. The clinic went above and beyond to get copies emailed to the boarding kennel in Colorado on a Saturday morning. Very much appreciated! Without your help, we would have been stuck!

Rip OFF clinic!!! We brought our dog in to check for some pain in her mouth. When we called they said they are able to see her. After couple hours we received call from them saying they could not have a look in her mouth and scheduled another appointment in a week and sent me home with 100$ bill for basically nothing. When I asked what I am paying for they said for “check up. We checked her heart rate and overall appearance “. Mmmm... I didn’t bring her just for check up I brought to find out problem which wasn’t done. I have three German Shepherds and they preferred to loose them as patients
