Dr. Boyd received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina in 1978 as a cum laude graduate. He then attended the Medical University of South Carolina where he attained his DMD degree as an honor graduate. To complete his education, he obtained his Master's degree and specialty certificate in orthodontics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

At your first visit to Boyd Orthodontics, a complete clinical exam will be performed which will include a review of your medical/dental history, an examination of your teeth and bite, an estimation of treatment time, and fees if appropriate. Diagnostic records are made to determine the best course of treatment.
As a matter of convenience to patients, Dr. Boyd also offers an automatic draft from checking accounts or credit cards. We will review all the fees associated with treatment and the financial options available during your complimentary orthodontic consultation. It is our goal to provide the highest quality of orthodontic treatment that is affordable to you and your family!
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. An orthodontist is a specialist who has completed an advanced education program following dental school to learn the special skills required to manage tooth movement and guide facial development.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that most children should have an orthodontic screening by age 7. This allows Dr. Boyd to determine if orthodontic treatment will be required and the best time for the patient to be treated. Many of the dentists in our community have been trained to identify orthodontic problems early, and may refer you to our office earlier than age 7.

Dr. Boyd did an amazing job on my braces! He explained to me every appointment exactly what was going on and what we were working on fixing next. The front desk was also so helpful and friendly when scheduling or rescheduling my appointment times. As well as the nurses assisting Dr. body with my new wires. Very gentle, and fun to talk with! Both locations are clean and organized and you can choose what location for your appointments as well!

Took my son here for overcrowding and over bite consultation. Ashley and Dr. Boyd was awesome with detailed description of what is going on inside his mouth. And made it easy to understand what needs to be done. They are so down to earth, making the appointment easy going. I visited Doc Richard Boyd yesterday due to an underbite issue that I was facing for the past few months because of a misaligned tooth. After complete analysis Doc Richard advised me to go for a night guard which will solve my problem rather than spending thousands on Braces or a jaw correction. I can’t express how thankful I am to Doc Boyd for his guidance. He is a Savior and a very honest Orthodontist. Similarly, he has an excellent Team. Each assistant in his team are so happy to help.

What an amazing experience. My daughter and I decided to get our braces together and from the start to getting them it was a breeze and pure joy! Dr. Boyd reports that he is world renowned for his work in orthodontics. Well Let me tell you he's more renowned for greed. Last week I called to get an appointment. Told them we moved, our orthodontist in Chicago provided us the reference as the brackets, equipment, and methodology is the same that my daughter has. I was told I was going to get a call, and after a week no call. I decide to call today so we can at least get the ball moving. Writing another stellar review because Dr. Boyd and team deserve all the recognition! By far, the most tentative, helpful, and caring group of workers. I misplaced my retainer and I was able to go in the very next day to get fitted for a new one at fabulous rate. The staff is always looking out for their patients and making sure they are taken care of. I cannot express how wonderful Dr. Boyd and his team are! I returned last week to have them to look at me for some concerns I have.
They treated me like I was apart of the family.
There are two locations. I've experienced both.
They are thorough when talking to you about your process and what to expect and when. Pricing, they are very concise and clear when talking about price. They give the Invisalign option as well.

I've had the BEST orthodontic experience at Boyd Orthodontics! I lived in the area temporarily and they were incredibly accommodating to help me finish my treatment while away from my home office. Dr. Boyd was attentive and new just what I needed. He is great at what he does and I was very impressed with how quickly they got a lot of work done. The staff there is incredible. They are so warm and they were so accommodating to my situation. I was able to get appointments easily and right away and the office atmosphere is wonderful. My normal orthodontist is back in California and I had a wire poking out and bothering me and Dr.Boyd and his staff were kind of enough to fix this for me. From the moment I walked in the staff was extremely friendly and helpful and made me feel welcomed. The girl who helped me was very gentle and made sure nothing was bothering me before I left. I am over 55 years old and, before I went on a whim to see Dr. Boyd, I had consulted with an orthodontist, my regular dentist and two dentists specializing in "cosmetic dentistry." All of these doctors were in the large city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. None of these specialists held the answer for me. My teeth/smile were not bad but I had never worn braces and my teeth looked older than I felt I did. I also had some visible chips and rough edges on a few front teeth. I moved to Columbia on a one-year work detail and decided I would get a consult one more time. I chose Dr. Boyd after researching
