Freeman's Shorin-Ryu Karate
Freeman's Shorin-Ryu Karate is a family owned and operated karate school serving Reno and Sparks, NV and surrounding communities for twelve years. We offer classes to adults and children ages 3 & up. Sensei Kelly Freeman has almost 40 years of martial arts training and currently trains under Kyoshi (Eighth Degree Black Belt) Pat Haley of Chico, CA.

Kyoshi Patrick T. Haley, 8th Degree Black Belt, began his karate training in 1974. In 1985, he began training under Grandmaster Shugoro Nakazato in Okinawa, Japan. In 2009, Kyoshi was promoted to 8th Degree Black Belt. Kyoshi Haley's numerous accomplishments include hundreds of awards in kata, kumite, and kobudo, as well as an induction into the North American Hall of Fame.
Services
As a traditional karate school, we have no paid instructors. All instructors volunteer their time and talents to assist the students in their progression, while they themselves are able to develop as teachers of the martial arts. Sensei Kelly Freeman is the head instructor, and owner, of our dojo. His martial arts training began in Tae Kwon Do, in which he holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt.
We use protective gear (provided) to practice our techniques in traditional karate with contact sparring in a controlled setting. All ages participate in sparring, from the 3 year olds to adults! Kata has been the traditional method for teaching fighting and grappling techniques for centuries. At our dojo, students learn new katas at each rank, including yakusoko kumite (pre-arranged fighting).

Full disclosure we are friends with the Freeman's.

I am writing this review not for today but the past. My children both took Karate here. I love Sensei Kelly as he is knowledgeable and loves what he does. He has a very kind demeanor, amazing amounts of patience and is able to teach even the youngest Karate. He is able to maintain respect in a fun and friendly environment. It is wonderful to watch the three year old class. Kelly teaches Japanese Okinawan traditional karate.

This dojo also participates in several Karate tournaments throughout the year. This is a family owned and family

My family and I love this place. There is no ego here. The Freeman's dojo is family run and family oriented. We are a homeschooling family and the Freeman's have classes that fit our schedule.
The Freemans karate studio teaches traditional Okinawan Shorin-Ryu karate. The Okinawan people are traditionally very small and the style of karate taught here is perfect for small children or anyone that find themselves in a close quarter physical struggle. The classes focus on tools my kids need to not only protect themselves but also to give any assailant pause for concern of their physical

A great family run business that I am so happy to have chosen. It is very affordable and multiple class times are offered throughout the week. My daughter has been attending for about 3 years and loves it. Sensai Kelly has a way of making the parents feel at home, he truly cares and gets to know the kids in his classes.

Freeman's Shorin-Ryu Karate is run by the Freeman family -- Kelly and Debbie and their kids. The atmosphere is friendly, welcoming, and definitely family oriented. Our son had been begging to take karate for a couple of years, and a friend recommended we check out FSRK...we could not be happier with our choice! There are plenty of class opportunities on the weekly calendar to fit different schedules, ages and ability levels. The price is definitely reasonable, and there are no long-term contracts or commitments required. Kelly travels frequently to the studio where he trains in Chico
