Phillips Brooks School
Phillips Brooks School is an independent, co-educational day school offering a truly child-centered learning program for preschool through 5th grade, located in Menlo Park - neighboring Stanford University. PBS is a diverse community of families and educators committed to partnering in support of student learning.

We offer intimate student-to-teacher ratios, ensuring that each child is known and loved by their teachers. Our Early Learning Center program engages our youngest students in creative, play-based, hands-on projects to teach early literacy, math, and problem-solving skills. Our innovative, rigorous, and research-based K-5 program blends literacy and math curricula with deep, experiential learning in world languages, visual art, music, and STEM.
Services
Hire and develop inspiring teachers whose expertise and growth mindsets ensure a high-quality classroom experience. We value strength of character and the integrity to do what is right in spite of the risk of fear or discomfort. We value ourselves as responsible members of both our local and global communities and in doing so demonstrate a deeper understanding and compassion for others.
By passionately pursuing core teaching beliefs that set us apart, we create the extraordinary every day at Phillips Brooks School. We guide children to cultivate their individual talents, explore and dig deep while working and reflecting together. In the process they discover their best selves - they flourish.
Thank you for taking time to visit our website and learn about our school. As you watch videos, browse photos, and read about our program, you'll become acquainted with engaged, active, and joyful student-learners. You'll meet their teachers - dedicated early-learning and elementary educators and life-long learners in their own right whose commitment to academic excellence is matched with extraordinary care for children and their growth.
We have high hopes for all of our students. We value each individually; we treasure their differences - the things that make them who they are! - as we celebrate our common ground. We hope to inspire all of our students to find and follow their passions, to challenge themselves, and to learn to find their best selves every day.
At Phillips Brooks School, we believe that authentic home-and-school partnerships are the surest path to maximizing each child's potential. We count on our students' families to be in strong alignment with our core values and mission and to support the work of the school by doing their part at home.

I have two children at PBS and really feel the school embodies (they "walk the walk") its core values on a daily basis. There is a different feeling as you walk around campus and meet the students - it was unique among the schools we looked at for our children.

This is our 5th year at PBS and we couldn't ask for a more perfect learning environment for our children. The school truly educates the whole child academically, socially and emotionally. The teachers are top-notch and dedicated and really do instill a love of learning in each student. We've also found some of our closest friendships in PBS's welcoming community!

All three of my kids have loved PBS. It is an amazing learning environment, community and campus. My oldest two have graduated and been very prepared for their middle school experiences.

There is a big emphasis on diversity and international learning; however, the school is very racially imbalanced (heavily Caucasian.) We got the feeling that we would be at a disadvantage being a mixed race family. We actually got tired of all the global learning talk during admissions and kept wondering what this school really was all about. We saw a lot of workbook learning in the lower grades and did not see that it would be any more different than a typical parochial school. Academically I am not sure if PB would be better than the local public schools. The one aspect that really stood

We searched long and hard for the "right" school for our kids. The campus is beautiful. The teacher/student ratios are low (including specialists, it works out to 1:7). The faculty is loving and supportive. Parent engagement is exceptional. Curriculum is differentiated for each child. There is intense focus on collaborative/social learning. Lovely art studio, science lab and music room. The kids have even built a village from sticks and other materials complete with a currency and fairly sophisticated economy. The children matriculate into amazing middle/high schools. Our dream for our

The great qualified, friendly, and caring staff really cares for each individual student.
My son loved it since the minute he joined in up to date (four years later). I strongly believe that they put great emphasis in their core values (Courage, Community, Love of Learning, and Kindness). I love the fact that they put great emphasis on Social-Emotional and Individualized Learning. One of the best schools in the Peninsula.
