Hotel Julien Dubuque
The rebirth of a hotel. Inspired by the renaissance of downtown Dubuque (especially the Old Main District) and the ongoing development at the Port of Dubuque, descendants of Louis Pfohl began a second extensive renovation in late 2007 of this historic hotel. The renovation began with an exterior restoration of the stonework and windows.

Soon after, the hotel closed completely for an overhaul renovation of all interior spaces. Now, after a $33 million complete renovation, guests from all over the world can experience this remarkable boutique hotel, offering the area's most elegant accommodations and impeccable service. Hotel Julien Dubuque is a true landmark of luxury and sophistication.

We rented out a room here for my son's birthday and when we opened the curtains of the room the next day there was a literal crack pipe on the window ledge. I called front desk to complain. They came up and got it but didn't offer to do anything to fix it or give us anything complementary. Should've comped our stay. But they didn't.

Was not impressed with restaurant,Would not recommend, but there are many excellent places within walking distance.

We had a lovely couple's trip to Dubuque and decided to stay at Hotel Julien, mostly because we love historic and boutique hotels. The location of the hotel is fabulous, and within walking distance to plenty of food and attractions.
We stayed at our hotel for three nights and did upgrade a bit to the Deluxe room. However, we were unaware that many of the rooms at Hotel Julien do not have exterior windows. There is a small skylight to let in natural light, but you are not able to see outside. This created a pretty claustrophobic feeling after three days of no sun/view. We definitely would have

Thank you! Thank you!! For making our stay the most joyful experience!! We loved our crazy cool update to the Capone suite!! Never once would we be able to afford to stay in that room! The entrance was grand and beautiful with great details in all the original doors that kept going and going to unbelievable rooms!! Wow!! Thank you for doing that!! It was like we won the lottery!!
This room goes for over 800 dollars a night. We had 2 rooms and we all decided to stay at the Capone suite!

Nice quaint old school elegance. Room was nicely furnished and clean.
Modern bathroom amenities. Comfy bed and quiet. My only reason for 4 stars is rear parking lot is poorly lit and inner rooms have a terrible view. Ask for a street or even better river view.

Large bug in my daughters bed. Bugs and dirt in windows. Very dusty. I have videos of the dust allergies flared up during stay. Dirty bathroom mirror. Horrible lighting. Pillows flat as pancakes. Loud party went on for hours into the night. Zero sleep. Reported to front desk at checkout he didn’t seem to care. Do not recommend.

The hotel is historic and beautiful inside. Location is great for going anywhere downtown and rooms were very clean. That being said the room we stayed in had the same amenities and space as a typical hotel but for three times the cost. Checking in was routine although, to be honest, a kiosk would have been just as friendly as the staff.
In summary, it is a very nice hotel with no more amenities than any other typical establishment but for us not worth the price we were charged.

This hotel was "sufficient", but for the price I paid per night - over $300, I was expecting a much more rewarding experience, and it was just your standard two queen beds. The windows are the original wood windows that have not been painted. Front desk staff upon checking in was not pleasant. The numbers on the thermostat jumped around as I was trying to lower the temp - housekeeping indicated that I had to call to the front desk for them to set the temperature. ???? It takes about 15 minutes for them to reset the thermostat to begin cooling to your liking. The TV was small for the size room it

Had my wedding rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception at Hotel Julien. The entire staff was very helpful and welcoming! Anyone I asked questions of or requested something from was very willing to help. The rooms were very nice. The ballroom is beautiful for a wedding reception! The food at the reception was also delicious! The hotel is also just a beautiful backdrop for wedding photos. Loved that I chose to have my wedding here!

If you want sleep do not stay here. The room is hot. The people next to us sound like they are in the same room and no amount of white noise can drown out the honking cars, yelling people and drag racing going on outside. UGH. Worst $200 ever spent. Also the other reviewers were right about the chilly receptionist girl.

Would never stay here again. Paid almost $400/night for an executive king suite and spent $500 in the spa for rude and unhelpful hotel staff, no cleaning service and no help with bags even though I was traveling alone with a 1 y/o and his grandma. Spa people were great though, and I will say our room was big.

I absolutely love this hotel and could not recommend it more. We recently celebrated our wedding with the Hotel Julien, and it could not have been more perfect. The staff is friendly, rooms are beautiful, and location is great on Main street. I can't wait to go back!

Wanted to stay here memorial weekend Saturday and Sunday but Saturday all booked. Stayed here Sunday night after exploring Galena IL and Aquarium. Parking is across the street in a lot. This is a historical hotel in downtown Dubuque. The lobby is fancy and the room. I walked down to the pool but it was super cold and a couple was extremely amorous in the hot tub so I returned to the room. They had an older tv channel that had Chips on. Oh the memories from childhood. They have a chair and ottoman for watching tv. The room was spacious and had a shower stall in bathroom. The beds were very comfortable

Room was not clean! Partially drank beverage on windowsill, water bottle under chair, and jacuzzi tub emitted brown disgusting filth went turned on. You could hear conversations of neighboring room, people yelling on the street in front of bars, car alarms and trains running all night long and this was on the 8th floor. We were offered a $20 coupon towards breakfast. Don’t waste your money.

I chose my hotels based on how I feel and what I'm doing so sometimes I want a nice room in a nice hotel and sometimes I just need a place sleep in besides my car and it doesn't matter. When I thought about a trip to Dubuque IA and Priceline popped up this hotel I fell in love with grand comfortable seating areas all over the beautiful lobby and the fireplace cozy area is my favorite. I researched the hotel and it's like 180 years old, rebuilt once after a fire but still 180 years is amazing. They have a lounge and a restaurant and spa packages. The pool is big and they have an exercise

I was really expecting this place to deliver a nice weekend but it just did not. It's obviously an old building with character but with updated rooms. Upon entry we were greeted by a clerk at the counter for check in. That was relatively quick and painless. Found our room and at first glance seemed good. Upon returning to the hotel after a day of hopping around the neighborhood we wanted to grab some drinks and water for the room. Apparently there are no vending machines nor is there a store to purchase water and pop/juice or whatever for the room. It's very strange since there was no

Hotel that is over 100 years old in the downtown area of Dubuque. Although it is rated a 3 star hotel on many sites it is best described as a 4 star hotel. There is a large pool, hot tub, a decent exercise room and a spa for massages and facials. It has old world charm. The restaurant is excellent for breakfast. Dinner is good.

Beautiful room, great bed. Terribly thin walls. Like I could hear the neighbor's midnight conversation word for word. I now know all about their relationship issues. She's clearly the dominate one of the two and I don't think she's going to put up with him much longer.

I would have preferred to not know these things about these people. Sleep would have been preferred.

Well, it is nice historic hotel in downtown Dubuque. Common areas look good, no doubt. Rooms are attractively furnished, and so are bathrooms. Nice beds too, good sleep. However, sound isolation is not good, paper thin walls, I guess or some other problem. Caroline's is good place to eat, but food leaves a lot to be desired: see my other review of Caroline's. Spa is grossly overpriced, in our opinion. All is good, and it would be 5, if not for basic housekeeping mishap. Never ever I give 5 out of 5, when housekeeping staff is making silly mistake of trying to force their way in my
