We are proud to offer the art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu to Richardson, North Dallas and the surrounding areas. We provide hands on instruction of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for individuals of all ages, making it practical and easy to comprehend. The self-defense concepts with the martial art of Jiu-Jitsu are specifically designed to teach a smaller individual how to defend themselves against a larger individual by using leverage and technique.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches you how to fight off the ground, otherwise known as grappling, and submit your opponent through submission holds. We pride ourselves in the fact that we have taught men, women, and children the art of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu since 1925, and have continued to pass on this exceptional form of self-defense.

Founded by Master Crolin Gracie, Gracie Gym follows a martial arts family tradition which began in 1925 by his father Carlos Gracie, and his uncle Helio Gracie, the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Crolin Gracie is one of Carlos Gracie's youngest sons.

Though Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was a part of Crolin's life since he was a toddler, it wasn't until he moved to Rio de Janeiro that he started getting a structured and regular workout from both his uncle Helio Gracie and his brother Rolls Gracie at the Gracie Academy.Michael grew up in the fight town of Portland, Maine.
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)? Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling based art, which means that children are taught to defend themselves without punching or kicking. At Gracie Gym, we use self-defense principles established by the Gracie family, and proudly trace our lineage to Carlos and Helio Gracie.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been proven to be one of the most effective martial arts in the world, by an endless stream of mixed martial artists who have arm barred and choked their way to victory. Boiled down to its essence, a martial art is a tool for defending yourself. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an amazing full body workout.
We hope you stay on your journey for years, become truly good at it, make life long friends, and find a fun way to stay fit. While live sparring is important to learning a technique, drilling a technique with little or partial resistance is more important. You may use a bump-and-roll three times in a six minute training session, but drilling a bump-and-roll 30 times in six minutes is better for you.
Classes begin with a formal bow to the professor(s) with students lining up in descending order. If you need to leave the mat or leave class earlier, you must ask permission from the professor. During class, when the professor is demonstrating the technique, students should sit silently with their back on the wall and legs crossed.

Competitive team is strong and tough and if you choose to compete, they push you do be better and to feel a part of a big family and team

I have two children in classes here, and they LOVE it! The staff, coaches, and Professor are amazing and absolutely adore the kids. I’m so thankful we found our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu home here! The value is awesome, and the gym is spotless. I can’t imagine my kids anywhere else!

I trained here for around 9 months before moving, and it was an amazing experience. The instructors have a wealth of knowledge, and teach techniques clearly for newcomers. The community is extremely friendly and supportive.

I tried a couple different places before finally deciding to choose Gracie Gym, and it was definitely the right decision. They were very welcoming from the start, the instructors and the students have always been kind and helpful. I highly recommend trying out a class here if you’re a beginner like myself or even if you’re looking for a new school to continue your journey. This gym is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. The training regiment is great, the people are even better. Everyone is there to make one another better. My 9 year old son also trains and the professors and coaches are incredible. They make it fun and develop at the same time.
