O'Briens Restaurant & Bar

My family and I have been here multiple times, summer and winter, we’ve sat in the dining room and at the bar, the food and service are always great.

My husband and I traveled to Clayton, NY, to visit some wineries. O'Brien's Restaurant is close to our hotel, so we tried it for dinner. The reviews were somewhat mixed, but I am happy to say that we were quite satisfied with our meal. We went on a Friday night, but since it was off-season, we didn't have a problem getting seated. Our server was very friendly, and we were served quickly. I ordered broiled haddock and received a large piece which was very tasty. My husband ordered steak and enjoyed every bite. We will definitely go back, so enjoy!

The environment was a clean pub.
Drinks- the raspberry tea was really good, the beer was just cold enough from draft really refreshing.
- [ ] Food- the blt was a bit dry but good. Fresh bacon would have made the Sandwhich pop more. The onion rings were cooked just right however you could tell they came from a bag. The Rueben was nothing spectacular but decent, the main flaw is the Sandwhich could really use more filling. The steak fries where cooked well but in seasoned. The hot beef was really really bland, I wouldn't recommend and very tiny. The poutine wasn't the best - very salty

We went in at 7pm and grabbed a dirty table in the bar side (the only one available). The hostess had already told us the food wait was about an hour but we were fine with that. The waitress cleaned off the dirty dishes about 20 minutes after we sat down and left never spoking a word to us. She walked by our table 3 times and never said a word during the next 15 minutes. Very disappointing. We got up and left.

Delicious Cattleman's Gold sauce on the wings. Tasty mashed potatoes. Friendly staff. We plan to return.

Local pub style place! Waitress was very friendly and service was great. Typical pub food, Sandwiches, burgers and wings! I had a quesadilla and we also ordered a couple of different burgers. The guys said the burgers were good! A good place to get a bite to eat and a beer!

5 stars hands down. We have made this our main food place. Been there at least 8-10 times this year. All the food is perfectly done and tasty. Had a ribeye last week and it beats any steak house I’ve gone to recently. All the staff is polite, helpful, and friendly. Two thumbs up!!!

Delicious food! Good service. We came in with a large group when they were short staffed. They took our order quickly, were friendly and served up delicious burgers!

Great local bar with excellent food choices and beers on draft. Be warned however that they are currently understaffed from June 2021 and there may be an hour wait for your food.
Highly recommend the cheese curds with raspberry sauce, oysters Rockefeller and the wings.

First and foremost, I understand it's covid. The wait staff is definitely taxed, BUT they're underwhelming in terms of paying attention to their customers. Simply being attentive, making eye contact or not still walking when asking you a question is wait service 101. Food is good, service staff needs training and the restaurant manager of their is one needs, needs, needs training. The bar takes precedence in this place, and the restaurant is a distant second place. I understand they're understaffed, acknowledge your customers and get somebody to take control on the floor.

Sat at the bar for 5 minutes without anyone acknowledging me. Then I moved to a table to eat, waited another 15 minutes for anyone to come over. Again never acknowledged I was there, she finally came over and asked if we wanted to eat or drink and that it would be an hour for food. I felt like I was inconveniencing her for anything I asked for. Will never go back to that restaurant. Worst service I've ever had in my entire life.

Good food! Horrible service!! If you don't have hours to wait... don't go. Unless you like being ignored.

On vacation from Toledo, Ohio and stopped for a late dinner at O'Brian. The food was so delicious. My hamburger was monstrous Huge wow. Waitresses were so nice, prompt very professional.

Across the street from the Harbor Hotel. Heard they have good dinners etc. We went however for a late nite snack. Typical fryer type food. Reasonable prices.

Fantastic service and attention to detail. The waitress was on top of what we asked for and kept the cups full.
The food was delicious to put nicely. The burgers were some of the best I’ve had - even my picky daughter ate a whole one and raves about it. Dessert was just as good and the overall bill for 6 people was in my opinion reasonable.
Highly recommend them!

Very nice place to have dinner. Service was good and they were all very friendly. If you have been vaccinated you don't need to wear a mask. We had the special on Saturday night which was prime rib, a BLT, and poutine. It was all very good, made right, hot and fresh! What more could you ask for!

Very typical American food but everything was very good. Simple and delicious. Only service was a little bit slower due to COVID-19 restriction.

Our first time here - staying across the street. Very Friendly staff, server was great. Food was also great. We had the poutine fries...never heard of this before , but it was really good!! Had the brisket sandwich and Shipwreck Burger. All were very good!! We are full and will probably come back again before we go back home to PA. Thank you!!

Food isn't terrible, but it's not noteworthy either. Wait time for service is longer than I would prefer on both occasions due to bartenders being the table servers also.

White pizza and supreme pizza were great. Wings were extremely mushy so if you like your wings to be really soggy and falling apart, this is the place for you!!! Unfortunately, we don't so they went in the trash. Also, the celery was put in with the wings so it was cooked and wilted from the heat of them. But those are just issues due to our personal preference so not the businesses fault- I'm sure many love their wings and celery that way! Customer service was great, it was a welcoming place and is a great location.

2nd stop here we had the Poutine, the Beef Dip Sandwich and a Turkey

On a Sunday night this is pretty much your only option for dinner besides the hotel restaurant, so we headed here since we'd already eaten twice at the hotel.

Place was not super full and the dining room was quiet in a depressing kind of way. Maybe it was because we were there after labour day but there's not a lot going on in the town.

Food was mediocre, typical bar fare. Fills you up, doesn't taste awful, but don't go out of your way for it. Vegetables we're probably frozen, etc. Spinach artichoke dip and the Alfredo were both more like runny soup than solid food.

My friend and I stopped into O'Brien's one summer evening for what we hoped would be a quick dinner, as we only had a little more than an hour to spare before a concert at the Clayton Opera House. There were a few customers besides us, but the place wasn't crazy-busy. However, our very congenial and apologetic waitress informed us that the kitchen was running about 20 minutes behind.

For drinks, my friend ordered the house merlot, while I had a Dogfish IPA. She described the wine as nothing special. I enjoyed my cold draft beer very much. For appetizers, she chose the poutine,

Our first time in Clayton, and chose O'Brians for their varied menu and their large parking lot! (We have a small RV and needed a little extra room to park!) Anyway, the food was terrific! Hubby had the Shrimp Platter, which was broiled and he chose Cajun. I had their Special "unlimited" homemade Sausage Ravioli, which were excellent!
The overall atmosphere was that of downhome food served in a nautical themed environment.

Great spot for drinks. Let me give you the highlights:
-Full bar
-live music Wednesday - Sunday
-non-pretentious
-solid bar food
-restaurant area if you want family friendly

This place is a dive. As of last year they renovated the dining room... But they haven't gotten their act together. Service is slow, food is not great.

Do not waste your time at the bar. It's filthy....

Also the bathrooms have a horrific mildew smell.

Going forward I will spend the extra money to eat anywhere else.
