Services
Bartels Pet Hospital was established by Dr. Harry Bartels in the early 1960's. It has served the pets of Brecksville for over 50 years! Dr. Gretchen Zarle joined the Bartels Pet Hospital team in 1992, and took over ownership from Dr. Bartels in 1996. Through the years, the Pet Hospital has undergone changes and improvements in keeping with the many ongoing advancements in veterinary medicine.
Bartels Pet Hospital provides quality veterinary care to help your pets live a long and comfortable life. Diagnostic imaging allows our veterinarians to look at your pet internally for clues about sickness or injury. Dental care is an essential part of your pet's overall health to prevent dental disease and tooth loss.
Bartels Pet Hospital offers preventive care and services for kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs. Bringing your pet to one of our veterinarians for a physical exam is the smartest and easiest way to keep them healthy. Exams allow our veterinarians to detect problems and diseases that might go undiscovered otherwise, including heart murmurs, tumors, enlarged organs, cataracts, ear infections, ear mites, dental disease, skin issues and allergies.
At Bartels Pet Hospital, our goal is keeping your pet happy and healthy. Thanks to modern diagnostics and our on-site laboratory, we're able to do just that for sick and injured pets. Diagnostic imaging allows us to examine your pet's internal organs and body systems to better diagnose their conditions.
Dental care is an essential part of your pet's overall health. When oral hygiene is neglected, pets can develop dental disease which negatively affects other systems in the body and may lead to tooth loss. A pet's dental health is just as important as their physical health, however, it often goes overlooked.

This was my first visit at Bartels. I switched from my other vet because they were an animal emergency hospital. Even though they were nice, it was always so chaotic and I never felt that one on one connection or them being able to take time to explain things to me or get to know me and my pets. From the time I called Bartels on the phone, they were SO NICE and treated me like my animals were important to them before I even scheduled the appointment. Then when I went in, we received amazing service and felt like we will actually be able to connect one on one and they will remember my animals when

Dr. Sionski and Dani were amazing with our dog. I was so impressed with Dr. Sionski’s bedside manners, compassion, skills and knowledge. She gave me perfect anticipatory guidance. Thank you Dr. Sionski and Dani for providing stellar care and compassion to Kodak. Linda at the front desk was great too- responsive, most professional and kind. Thank you to all for making our experience exceptional.

We changed to this vet last year. So far they seem very good at what they do. HOWEVER, if you have an Rx requirement they are not very competitive. In fact they dispensed a pill for our puppy at around $1.50 per pill, total $70.00, which I found on line at 36cents a pill total $15.00. . That’s a rip off. I have to buy this pill regularly. When I complained, they told me that they couldn’t buy that pill themselves for 36cents & I told them that they must be incompetent buyers. Not a good answer from them of course. . Most vets have been much more reasonable with their foods & pharmaceuticals

Well take our Lab no where else. Linda at the front desk is wonderful. I take Heidi to Laura exclusively for her mani/pediatrics spa treats. Dr Akl and Dr Zarle are wonderful. Discusses options with you about any treatment needed. They truly love their the patients. Miss Dr Pixton since her retirement but hoping she is enjoying life. Highly recommend

On July 13th I had to put down my sweet 1 year old cat, Charlotte. I called Bartel’s that Monday morning and spoke to Nicole and told her to tell Dr. Zarle my cat was having seizures. Told her to call me… back. At 4:00 no one called so I called. Incompetent Dr. Zarle said I could bring her in. In tears, I asked why no one called and I need ER ASAP. She said it got lost in translation. If SEIZURES gets lost on you then you’re a crappy vet. Period. I had been trying to figure out what was wrong with my sweet girl for sometime. Had full bloodwork on her 1 week prior and the Dr.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Bartels. My 5-year-old chow had a traumatic experience at her previous groomer, and couldn’t even get through a simple bath without thrashing so hard she almost hurt… herself and her groomer. Her old groomer treated her like a burden, so finally I stopped bringing her there. After some searching I found Bartels and they have been an absolute blessing. Kirby’s groomer Laura is kind and compassionate, and takes extra special care of my “difficult” Kirby. She transforms my fluffy, tangled, talon-nailed lion back into a sleek

First let me say that Bartels used to be my regular pet clinic. Dr. Zarle was wonderful. Then a new vet came (who is now gone) who had a bad attitude and I decided to find another vet. I only brought my pet back to Bartels this time because they tested for something that my regular vet did not. Harriet at the front desk gave me inappropriate and… condescending questioning when I told her that I would not be keeping my rescue cat but would find him a good home. Because the cat was called NC for New Cat since I did not yet give him a name, Harriet very sarcastically made a snide remark to

Everything at Bartels comes highly recommended. The vet techs are caring and compassionate, and Dr. Deak is phenomenal, I wouldn’t bring my almost year-old German Shorthair anywhere else.
In addition to puppy shots and visits, as well as prescriptions, we had a large scare on the day before Thanksgiving 2018. The pup had some diarrhea issues that… involved blood and 5-10 minute squatting sessions. She was also going in the house which we had trained out of at this point so we were concerned. We assumed no vet would be open the day before Thanksgiving, but we called and Dr. Akl was

We brought in a rescue yorkie...10 year old Sammy. He received excellent care and empathy from the staff. I would highly recommend them. As a lifelong pet owner, we get to know who we can trust. Sammy is frail, and had a tough two weeks as his owner passed away. He is adapting well, and with the help of Bartels staff, he will continue to have a better life.
