Poppies Cafe
To provide our district with a unique, committed hospitality business and inspire in our team a passion for exceptional food, wine and service, whilst showcasing the very best of local ingredients to our valued guests. Our food is all made in our purpose-designed kitchen including homemade breads, which are baked daily.

We make our fresh pasta, which is hand cut. All jams, relishes, pickles, dressings, sauces and condiments are made on the premises and, where possible, our vegetables and salad ingredients are grown from our own gardens. We also have an excellent range of carefully selected local and New Zealand wines to accompany your meal, including several from the Waitaki Valley.

Coffee was great and got an Avacado toast. For some reason my toast didn’t have any sesame seeds etc which I didn’t check until I reached the park. Lovely messages on the wall, loved the ambience

Staff was attentive, funny and just great people. Prices are very reasonable and the food is excellent and cooked to order. They have a gluten free menu and funny named sandwiches. Loved it...

The food is incredible. It's a home-cooked meal being done right in front of your the bacon is very crunchy and they always have a smile when they are taking care of you. I highly recommend!

Get muffins to go because if you taste one and don't buy any to go you will be thinking about their tasty moistness later. Ample food on your plate for breakfast. Love that I could watch the chef cook. She made it look so easy when I stress out over just making toast! Whimsical signs to read during your visit. The waitress told us about Farmers market around the corner which was much appreciated.

What a wonderful old town charm of a breakfast nook. The staff was very nice and welcoming with Sunday morning smiles. The food was good, really hit the spot. I look forward to returning making it my weekend go to.

I wanted to love this place because I love greasy-spoon counter-serve diners. But it’s just not good. My overeasy eggs had a fully cooked yolk and a club sandwich with fries costs $17.95!! Service is sketchy too.

I didn't even sit down because every employee ignored me when I walked in, luckily there's a beautiful cafe across the street with delicious food, great atmosphere and extremely kind staff. I'd highly recommend walking across the street. Side note the staff replied to a previous review saying they serve 1000s of customers a day. Do you really want to eat somewhere where the staff is arrogant enough to say that?? Personally I'd rather walk across the street and go to a classier, better, and cleaner establishment.
