Boxing In The Park
Yes, boxing lessons is a great way to get in shape. But it's way more than that. Learning to box is mentally challenging, improves balance and agility, and just fun to do! The focus is on mitt-work, not sparring, so no catching punches with your face (but we do work on defense!). I train to get you ready to fight, even if you never do.

So whether you've never thrown a punch or you're fine-tuning your Golden Glove skills, I make sure your game improves. Audubon Park is one of the most beautiful places in the city. The live oaks provide shade on the hottest day, there are 4 miles of trail running, an outdoor lap pool, and par course elements all providing an endless variety of strength and conditioning training opportunities.
Services
Strength and conditioning are the foundations of your boxing training. At Audubon Park, our training options are limitless. On "mitt" days, the first 20 minutes of each session includes warm up, rope work, resistance band training, and circle drills to get your heart rate up and muscles loose.

On "run" days, we take it in the park and may spend the entire hour working hand-to-hand boxing drills in between jogging, sprinting, dips, pull ups, box jumps. Now this IS the fun stuff! The boxing training is totally tailored to your level. For beginners, it's the basics: how to punch, block and move your feet.
Check out these amazing kids! They live in the streets in Kampala, Uganda but get free training, clothes, and a meal (sometimes) by the great coaches at the Kasubi Boxing Club. 5% of your training fees goes to these kids. Our first project is to build a chicken coop business for the Kasubi Boxing Club where the kids help care for the chickens and sell the eggs in the local market.

Matt tailors stretching, strength training, and boxing technique instruction to each individual. This is apparently the way he did when he trained professional boxers when the right preparation made the difference between winning and losing and getting injured or not. He's a great personal coach, really knows boxing, has a great sense of humor and is always in a good mood.

Matt is an amazing trainer - every workout is so well tailored to your own style and needs. He’s really great at picking up on your strengths and how you best process new training techniques and changes up the workouts on the spot to help you get the most out of it! He’s also super accommodating and flexible to your schedule! I usually get really into some sort of physical activity for a couple weeks and then kind of lose motivation but I’ve been training with Matt for about five months now and I’m definitely going to continue!

Without any prior boxing experience i dove into training 3x a week with Matt. Through Matt’s instruction and leadership i felt like i was learning right out of the gate and after the first class had already felt i was walking away with knowledge gained. I look forward to training every week and when the session is over i always find myself not wanting to leave. Matt will push you to the limit but not over the edge in the best ways. Being able to train outside on a beautiful morning is always a major bonus as well. My only regret is i hadn’t started training sooner!

I’m so happy I started boxing in the park with Matt! I see Matt twice a week and love how technical the sport is. Way better than going to any bag class because Matt really helps you learn proper technique. Overall Matt is awesome - you can tell he really cares about his students and has helped not just with boxing but is always there for emotional support and whatever else his students needs. He definitely pushes you to succeed and I always work up a good sweat after each session. Such a fun way to fit in some cardio and it’s a great way to get into a better head space. I highly recommend

My 14 year-old son wanted to learn how to box. A quick internet search lead me to Boxing in the Park and I am so thankful for that. I thought that learning how to box would consist of putting some gloves on and start practicing. Matt showed us it is way more than that. Every lesson is filled with exercises in balance, reflex, endurance, dexterity and yes...boxing. I have been a boxing fan for a very long time but seeing Matt teach my son has shown me so much about the sport. I now appreciate the beauty and complexity, the thought process, the technique and planning that it takes to box. Now, when

I recently started boxing with Matt in the park to get back into shape, but I have enjoyed boxing with him even more and will continue to box. He is able to get you to use every part of your body when you are in the ring, not just your arms but your entire body. It is a great workout and I have learned a lot just after a few weeks!

Boxing in the park has truly been an amazing experience for me. Not only are you able to enjoy the beauty of the park, but you receive an amazing workout. One the I enjoy about the class is the personal attention and working out with a coach that is able to hone in on your skills and polish them, and help improve your weaknesses. I do not think there is a better personal coach then Matt, he is very friendly, and knowledgable. I also appreciate the fact that you are learning real boxing techniques, and strategy rather than just punching a back for the whole workout. Matt is able to gradually work

Working out with Matt was an awesome experience for me. Matt really does it all. Matt is a great boxing coach who will teach you real technique while giving you an awesome workout. He is also very flexible, and will build a workout that will help you reach your specific goals whether that be strength building, losing weight, or becoming the best fighter you can be. I would also encourage you to take full advantage of Matt's nutritional knowledge. He taught me so much about how to eat for the body you want, and he helped me form habits that have kept me in great shape. Audubon Park is a beautiful

I look forward to my workout every week at the park. Its so refreshing to spend some time among the beautiful trees after a long day stuck inside at work. The park is well shaded, and I never feel overheated, but work up a nice cleansing sweat while working out every body part. Last class we enjoyed the rain, and were the only ones there. It was the perfect way to end a long day. If you want something different as well as challenging, give boxing in the park a try. It is definitely the best part of my week.

Boxing in the Park with Matt is an excellent way to get or stay in shape! Not only do you get to revel in the beauty of Audubon Park, but you also get the privilege of working out with Matt himself. Matt is accommodating, yet challenging at the same time - the perfect combo. He'll work with you to help achieve your goals, whether they are more fitness related or more technical. I've been boxing for a little under a year before and love training with Matt because his attention to detail ensures that my technique is improving and that I am not reinforcing bad habits that had gone unchecked
