This place was so cute! I was recommended by one of my friends to stay at the hostel. I’ve never been to Duluth, my boyfriend and I stayed for two nights and visited the sights. I’ve never been in a hostel and I was a bit worried there would be no privacy. However everyone was respectful of space and privacy, even thought everyone is in close spaces it is also quiet all the time for people to sleep which is amazing due to close proximity. Bathrooms were very clean as well. Staff was very helpful in showing us were to park and very friendly as well. The little kitties are also so sweet and love

Very nice. But this is a hostel with hotel pricing. Keep true to your calling and provide an affordable alternative to shoebox hotels!
RESPONSE TO OWNER: Yes, we shopped the market...70 bucks at Super 8 in Superior. We paid 140 for 2 at Hostel, but, again, we love the Hostel du Nord! Perhaps go back to prices you used to charge...$40. High-end real hostel pricing. And transparent pricing, not having to haggle for a deal, makes life easier for everyone.

We've been here twice in the span of two weeks this October
Coming up from Minneapolis on the Greyhound and walking up the block to the Nord is super convenient! (And very affordable, even on the fly)
Staff is AMAZING. We want to just hang out and chill there all the time.
I had a lost purse and they were so kind and helped me out- even helped me with a few personal items I needed.
We bought hats and stickers and definitely want to buy tees and sweatshirts next visit.
I wish we had one in the metro. This place is awesome.
Thanks Bob and all. We will see you soon. You guys have something special

It's been literally years since my last hostel stay. And that was in my Europe travel days. That said, this was a very welcome reintroduction. The spirit of travel is reignited in me just by a one night bunking.

I came across them by chance on Airbnb while cruising into Duluth for the first time. The desk staff was very helpful and gave me a short, but thorough tour. Even in "covid times" I can't complain at all about cleanliness. Then again, I'm actually pretty easy going about all that anyways.

My bunk was cozy, the bed was comfy, and the night was quiet (probably owing

I really wanted to like this place. It's a hostel not a hotel and our bunk was fine.
The communal bathrooms were fine (think campground). The vibe in general was laid back and artsy. During quiet hours a woman called out that there was a man in her bed. Whatever the resolution was it was handled quietly. Unnerving, but not the fault of the hostel. Unfortunately the morning staff member was not sober. He wasn't scary or unkind, but he wasn't going to be ignored and his behavior was concerning. Would I stay there again? No. Was it the worst night of my life? No. It's a hostel, you agree to be in

Stayed 1 night for a few hours and spent $80. Which is kind of expensive for a bed. That's why it gets 4 stars.
BUT the workers are great. Polite and helpful. I will say the hostel is clean. Everyone was quiet during quite hours. It reminded me of college a little bit. Shared space. Grill and fire pit outside. Parking in the back was convenient. If I do it again it would definitely be for a few days vs 1 night.

This was a great place to stay! It was a unique experience for my daughter and me, and we really enjoyed it. It was clean, and we didn't have any issues. Next to the bed was a nice sized locker with a key, so you don't have to bring your own lock. The sauna was easy to use and very relaxing after hiking. The manager was welcoming and friendly. Overall, this was a wonderful experience! I did not see a resident cat, but maybe it was sleeping when we were around.

I had never stayed at a Hostel before and wanted to give it a try! I was in Duluth for a wedding and knew I wouldn’t be around a hotel room much, so I was simply looking for a simple and secure place to stay.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Wifi was great. The bathrooms were tidy and looked new. I also enjoyed the sauna!
I appreciated the private lockers near the hostel bunks, and the little nook each bunk had - complete with fan, light, and power outlet. The bed was simple and comfortable - I think it could have had another pillow, though.
I stayed two evenings. The sleeping area

The hospitality of Bob, and all the employees was superb! I hadn't been to a hostel before, and this was an amazing experience! Everyone was kind, genuine, and respectful.
- The huge sauna was AMAZING for relaxing at the end of a long day.
- The exterior, and interior community/shared areas were designed tastefully, and conveyed a homey feel.
10/10 would recommend to a friend.

And he showed us the way to get to Hostel Du Nord and waited outside and showed us around.. The stay was amazing and the bed is so comfortable the place is so clean. It is definitely like a home away from home. The staff is so very friendly. Would definitely stay here again. And suggest Hostel Du Nord to others. The prices are great also.

We had a great stay at Hostel du Nord! We arrived very late after a delayed flight and a long day. When we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, showed us around the place, directed us on where to park, and recommended a nearby place to eat. Very accommodating and easy-going atmosphere. The bed was comfortable and provided more privacy than I was really expecting, bathroom was clean and spacious, got a great night's sleep. The kitchen and outdoor area were both very nice and well taken care of. We had to go pretty soon after waking up, but would definitely plan on coming back

Chose to stay here instead of a hotel as I was alone and couldn't stay at the campground with my kids due to back issues. I did not want to spend $200 for a night however, so I thought I'd try this. I'm 53 and it was my first time at a Hostel. My daughter has stayed in several around the world so I guess I'm late to the party.

Checking in was easy. I called for someone to come to the front desk and he appeared within minutes. Very nice and helpful. I explained to them when I made the reservation I needed something easily accessible and that is exactly what I got. I could enter

This place was a great alternative to staying at a traditional hotel in Duluth since I had no interest in lounging around in a hotel room (would rather be out and about while in Duluth) and just wanted a clean bed and shower for my recent visit.

Surprisingly clean all around.

The only con I have is that the mattresses slept hot and the sleeping area downstairs felt more warm than necessary. Woke up a few times at night due to being too warm even with the privacy curtain open for airflow. Wish they had turned down the temperature a couple of degrees. They do have fans in each pod but would

My friend and I were strapped for space in Duluth when we wanted to go watch a relative run the grandma's marathon! It was fully booked everywhere but Hostel du Nord. Looking into this space a little more, we saw few but very good reviews so I went for it. I called the number which takes you directly to Bob who is literally the chilliest, most joyful happy person. He was calmly went through the reservation with me and was available for questions leading up to the stay. They kindly offered us free parking during the morning of the marathon (we arrived in the Duluth at 6am and checkin wasn&apos

This place was pretty good for a hostel. Cons= expensive, blow up mattress, low pillows, rude check in boy, bright lights on in the middle of the night. Pros= it's kinda cool, cheaper than regular hotel, good location

I recently visited Duluth for a night and found this gem of a hostel located in a historic building downtown. Though it's a little difficult to find and not well-signed, once I found it, I had no trouble finding a parking space.

The hostel has a hip, friendly vibe, the staff are very helpful, and the place is clean and quiet. I haven't stayed in a hostel in years, but I enjoyed my time here. The layout is more private than the standard dormitory bunks, and the cubby-like wooden bunks feel cozier.

The place also comes with a sauna which I enjoyed a bit too much. As a single traveler

Super friendly staff, and a well designed hostel.

The bunks are private, and at a fraction of the price of any hotel in town, this would be a great option even if it weren't a fantastic way to meet cool people...but it is.

I stayed here while in town for Grandma's Marathon, and was not disappointed at all. Highly recommend!

Hostel du Nord is totally legit and budget travel worthy. Great location, great accommodations, and one awesome owner, Bob. I visited Duluth for the weekend and staying at Hostel du Nord was a big reason I had such an awesome experience and why I'll be visiting again in the future. I've been to several hostels before this trip and I can happily attest that Hostel du Nord is truly one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at.

Very traditional bunk style set up, but there are curtains to enclose yourself with and each bed comes with a personal locker. My favorite part about the place
