Services
Eye Care Associates of Wichita was started in 1948 by Dr. Lewis Smith. In 1968, Dr. Phillip Ernzen joined the practice. The doctors moved to the current location at 321 S. Hillside in 1979. They were leaders in the profession and both served as president of the Kansas Optometric Association (KOA). Drs.
We also offer the convenient single use daily wear lenses, including Ciba Dailies Aqua Comfort Plus, 1 Day Acuvue Moist, and Cooper Proclear 1 Day lenses. Hundreds of lenses are available in stock and custom lenses are available on a made to order basis. Macular Degeneration is a condition linked with aging, so it is often called Age-Related Macular Degeneration or ARMD. This condition is a leading cause of legal blindness in people over age 60. A person with ARMD can gradually or suddenly lose vision in the central part of the eye, called the macula.
Everyone should be concerned about glaucoma because the symptoms of this serious disease are "silent." Glaucoma is nearly always painless, and slowly robs you of vision-without you being aware of it. Only regular visits to a qualified eye doctor will reveal the signs that you are at risk or already have the disease.
A cataract is a cloudy area in the normally clear lens of the eye. The lens is a tissue located behind the pupil that is responsible for focusing light onto the retina (back of the eye). A cataract usually forms as you get older. Cataracts occur when there is a buildup of protein in the lens, which makes the lens cloudy.

I’m extremely disappointed in this office policies that are completely unrealistic. They rather have short term patients than long term. My family of 7 has been going to doctor Martin for years we even followed him when he changed to this office. His East staff has made it completely and impossible for me to see him. They try to push my appointment far out also schedule me across town. Making it extremely difficult but because We love dr Martin we try to make it work. Unfortunately I tried to schedule and they told me I couldn’t. I Ask her to have Dr Martin call me or give me his email. Clearly

I have been going to Eye Care Associates for years now. First, I saw Dr. Hawk and then Dr. Martin. Both of them have been wonderful. For no given reason, I was scheduled, unknowingly, to see Dr. Eubanks for this year's annual diabetic eye exam. Dr. Eubanks was nice enough, but he wasn't the optometrist I normally see. Several weeks later I was billed for $200.00 plus. This naturally upset me when I thought with my new insurance plan a diabetic eye exam would be covered. In fact, my insurance agent and I had discussed it. Prior to seeing Dr. Eubanks, I'd presented a new AARP UHC Medicare Advantage

Experience was good. However I waited almost 2 months to receive my son glasses. When I called to find out why I wasn’t notified of them being ready to pick up, a lady said they had the wrong number. So I’m wondering if they just give up; making sure the patient retrieves their glasses if they don’t have the current number. When we fill out the patient forms don’t you guys ask for our email address. Not dissatisfied with this office just disappointed.

Eye Care Associates is just the best! They are professional, kind, and helpful. They were so patient and kind with my husband. They even offered to help me get him to the car. Prescriptions were given but no pressure to get new glasses in fact the Dr stated none were needed at this time. I am most impressed!

I drive from Tyler, TX, approximately 500 miles, to see Dr. McCarthy every year. He’s been my doctor since I think 1992 and he is the best! I’ve been going to eye care associates since 1976 and have been with them ever since. Dr McCarthy also takes excellent care of my sister who has glaucoma, and took care of my dad until dad passed away in May 2020. When I was making very little money Dr. McCarthy always worked with me on paying for my exam and contact lenses. He is awesome. I recommend him highly.

First of all let me say I really like Dr Wise, but that's about it. I have had a schedule problem last time where I showed up for my appointment only to find out I didn't have one. At least not at the time I had. This year I drove over to my appointment to be told BCBS didn't have me listed for an eye exam benefit. I left and called BCBS to confirm and I was told I do indeed have an eye exam benefit. I hate to move but life is too short. I won't be back.

My husband I have been going to Eye Care Associates for several years. They are excellent at what they do, from the Eye Dr to all the staff. If I need an adjustment on my glasses they will get me in and quickly get me out. The women that work at the front desk are very nice and fun to talk with while you wait for your appointment or just a walk in fix. We give the eye Dr a 5 star and all of staff a 5 star. Thank You Eye Care family!

I was visiting Wichita for a golf tournament. My eyes had been bothering me for quite some time and it had been almost a year since my last eye exam. I called last minute to get in for an eye exam and they were able to schedule me for the same day within an hour of calling. I got there 20 minutes early and they took me in early. The exam was thorough and the staff was friendly and professional. I highly recommend.
