Karen Simpson, MS, RDN, CDN is a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist, Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist, Certified Health Coach and Certified Personal Trainer. Karen graduated from Long Island University in Brookville, New York with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and a Master of Science in Nutrition with a concentration in Exercise Physiology.
A registered dietitian-nutritionist will evaluate your current eating habits and lifestyle factors to determine your nutrition needs while considering age, activity level and health status through client centered nutritional counseling sessions. A registered dietitian-nutritionist is qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy to assist in disease management.
Did you know that you can get nutrition counseling during a virtual session in the comfort of your own home? Telehealth a service I have made available to meet the needs of those who do not want to leave their home. Many people also find that virtual counseling is not only convenient, but a more efficient means of receiving information as well.
Although there are foods that are helpful for your immune system there is no one "super food". An eating plan that supports immunity consists of a variety of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, low fat dairy and whole grains. Food contains naturally occurring substances that protect health, and nutrients are better absorbed from food compared to supplements.
Before you make your first appointment verify your benefits by calling the number on the back of your insurance card. 1. Do I have nutrition counseling benefits on my plan? If they ask for a CPT code provide them with the following: 97802 and 97803. If they say you do not have coverage for those codes then ask about the following CPT codes: 99401, 99402, 99403 and 99404.
