Paul was raised in the Bay Area and is a Contra Costa resident. He graduated from De La Salle High School and in 1987 graduated from University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business with an emphasis in finance and real estate. Paul began his Real Estate career as an Acquisitions Researcher for Kaufman and Broad, a national Real Estate homebuilding company.
Paul's career continued in the real estate industry as he established himself as a self-employed Acquisitions Consultant. In 1993, Paul acquired Stephens Property Management from the founder Shirley Stephens and has built the business into one of the dominant property management companies in the East Bay.
