The Yoga Center of Marin was co-founded in 1986 by Gini Savage and Suzanne Kanner who brought together Iyengar Yoga teachers of Marin County. At the time only one other yoga center existed in Marin. Most teachers taught in social halls of churches, recreation centers or gyms.
It was their vision to create a community of teachers and students to propagate the teachings of BKS Iyengar, in a clean facility fully equipped with props and dedicated solely to yoga.Thirty-three years later, at our second location, we are going strong. Many of our original teachers are still with us today.

I wanted to take the Gentle and Therapeutic class which was advertised as good for people with chronic pain. I emailed the instructor and she said just show up. There is just the studio, (no waiting room)so I was standing around trying to figure out who was the instructor. There were only about 5 people and it was obvious I was looking around. Finally I asked a woman who then acknowledged that she was the instructor. I asked if there were registration forms and was told to write my name on a piece of blank printer paper and that 4 session were $85. I was reluctant but decided to pay anyway. There
