Services
Aikido was developed in the 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba, known to his students as O Sensei (" Great Teacher"). O Sensei was one of the greatest martial artists of all time. His Aikido is based on centuries-old Samurai fighting techniques. However, Aikido is unique among the martial arts in that its goal is to redirect and control aggression without inflicting injury on the attacker.
The art of Aikido is a rich and deep discipline, yet it can be learned and practiced by people of all sizes, ages, and physical or athletic abilities. Children ages 6 - 10 are accepted into this program. Aikido is a particularly valuable discipline for young children. The training emphasizes physical balance and timing, coupled with a calm and controlled attitude.
Jerry Zimmerman is the Head Instructor and owner of Aikido North Jersey. Jerry has over 34 years of training and teaching experience and his rank is Rokudan, Sixth Degree Black Belt. He is a Shidoin, Senior Instructor and Examiner, certified by the International Aikido Federation and the United States Aikido Federation.
Your child will learn more than a martial art. Our training will develop your child's motor skills, develop their focus, increase their confidence and give them a positive outlook - all while having a lot of fun! The classes also encourage the benefits of good behavior, teamwork, and being their best at home, at school and in social situations.
Children ages 6 - 10 are accepted into this program. They may join at any time - new students are given particular attention and everyone trains at their own level. The training emphasizes physical balance and timing, coupled with a calm and controlled attitude.

The great difference in Aikido from other martial arts is that it is strictly defensive; therefore, your child can learn how to be effective and safe in hostile situations without having to resort to violence as a reaction.Children mimic what they learn. If you teach your child how to punch and kick, he or she will want to punch and kick.

This dojo is a family - a loving, warm, inviting family - and we have been welcomed with open arms. My son has been going through a rough period exhibiting issues with aggression and attention-seeking. Sensei, Ms. Crystal, and all of the instructors have been incredibly supportive and patient. They are so adept at teaching not only the physical aspects of Aikido, but the principles behind it as well. We are grateful for their commitment to our family and truly fortunate to be a part of theirs.

Highly recommend this dojo to anyone interested in pursuing the
art of Aikido. You will find a highly dedicated group of instructors ; not to
mention Sensei Jerry Zimmerman who is such an inspiration and
to all his students. I have been a student of Sensei Zimmerman for about fifteen years and look forward to continue our journey on the path to Aikido Enlightenment.
Remember the center of the universe is closer than you think ...........
