A play-based, nature-inspired environment building strong, confident, and happy children setting sail for a bright future. At Coastal Community Preschool, we believe children learn best in a warm, welcoming, safe, and vibrant community where their ideas are respected, their motives trusted, and their needs are met to the fullest extent possible.

In addition to creating and maintaining this environment, we are committed to fostering a sense of community by facilitating shared experiences that engage intellect, emotion, and senses, encouraging children to reflect on these together. By focusing on the child as both an individual and vital community member, our goal is to help develop a sense of belonging and self-respect, as well as respect and compassion for others.
Services
Welcome to Coastal Community Preschool (CCP), an independent, private, incorporated, non-profit organization that serves preschool children from the age of 2 years 3 months until entry into kindergarten. The school is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of Coastal Community Preschool parents, members from the Santa Cruz community, and teachers at the School.
I was born and raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Right after getting married, my husband and I moved to Colorado for about a year and a half. Although we loved the Rockies and the snow, nothing beats Santa Cruz and all the beauty around here. I have a son, Isaac, who attends CCP and a daughter who was born in March of 2020.
Our preschool is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of Coastal Community Preschool parents, staff and Santa Cruz community members selected through an annual election. The board meets on the last Wednesday of each month. If you would like to attend one of our meetings, please contact our board president.
We rotate weeks doing circle time. One teacher will lead the circle doing songs, stories, movement, games, and or a flannel story while the other provides circle support. As lunch finishes up children use the bathroom/ diaper change then head to the side deck for some play before our rest story. All children rest on their mats until 1:30.
After parents' sign-in (located in each child's classroom) childrenwash their hands, child signs-in at the clip board, a health check and verbal check-in will be conducted by one of the classroom teachers with the child and whoever is dropping off that morning. Children have free play until classroom teacher picks them up.

Our daughter attended Coastal Community Preschool for all three years that she was eligible, and she really blossomed during her time there. The staff at CCP are wonderful, and they know how to give your child the individual attention they need and work with their strengths. Student to teacher ratios are extremely low (lower = better)-- approximately half the number of children per teacher than the legal requirement per age group, which was awesome! The pedagogy is play-based and child-centered, which was exactly what we were looking for, even if we didn't know it at first! Each classroom teacher
