Services
No shoes on the mat! No bare feet off the mat! We're grinding our whole bodies into that surface. Any abrasion - even a microscopic/invisible one - can pick up bacteria and lead to infection. Stay home if you're sick. We're in very close contact, which pretty much guarantees transmission of any infection.
We clean the mats thoroughly and carefully. The floors, not so much. The rest of the world, not at all. We're aggressively grinding every exposed skin surface into these mats for hours at a time.

Assume everything outside of the actual mat surface is crawling with ringworm, impetigo, staph/MRSA, and other nasties - not to mention blood, urine, vomit, feces, and every other not-necessarily-infectious-but-still-thoroughly-gross substance imaginable.Assume these horrible things adhere instantly to anything they touch, including the soles of your shoes and/or feet.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a submission grappling martial art popularized in the U.S. by Royce Gracie's phenomenal success in the early Ultimate Fighting Championships. Unlike striking arts (karate, tae kwon do, etc.) BJJ happens mostly on the ground and involves positional control, joint locks, and choking techniques.
Find answers to the most commonly asked questions below. If you have a question that is not answered here, please feel free to contact us from our CONTACT PAGE. Maybe we'll add your question here! For the moment, we only offer "adult" classes - ages 14 and up. This is a fairly arbitrary cutoff designed to ensure that students have an appropriate level of physical, mental, and emotional maturity to hang with the grownups.
Here you will find some resources that will hopefully help you find a gi you'll be happy with. You can spend a lot on a gi, but if you're not concerned about "fashion", expect to pay between $80 and $150 if buying new. Be cautious if buying a used gi. Make sure you know how it was washed and (especially) dried in its former life - it may have shrunk well under its labeled size.
