Dr. Ellen Merkin is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada. Having graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology, she then went on to earn her degree in Optometry from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1984. Dr. Merkin did her optometric internships at the Seattle Indian Health Hospital and San Diego Naval Base.

AVOID!!!
I lost my old eye doctor due to change of insurance and found Dr. Merkin through my insurance company. Her reviews were good and she was close to home so I made an appointment for an exam to get new glasses.
The first pair of glasses didn't work for me at all. I called her office, Dr. Merkin re-examined me and gave me a different prescription. New glasses were made and they were even worse!
My optician, who is great, called Dr. Merkin to discuss the problems and Dr. Merkin hung up on her! Totally unprofessional and rude.
It took several months of constant demands to get my insurance

Dr. Merkin has always provided friendly personal service that you don't get in many medical offices. It's that "family doctor" experience. It's really comforting for someone to remember you and your vision care history. It's always easy to get an appointment and to reach a real person for questions. My glasses have always come in promptly and whether I come into the office or they're mailed to me, I've been happy.

I have been going to Dr Merkin since I had my first professional eye exam. She has treated me very nicely each time that I come for my exams and was professional. Her staff even helped me with picking out frames, which I thought was beyond their job description, but was eager to assist. : ) The front office knew the information about my insurance, which was nice!
