Dr. Jay Kappenman started his practice in 1987 inspired by his father, James, who practiced dentistry for 42 years. With the addition of his sister Tami and son Will to the practice, family dentistry takes on a whole new meaning. Our entire family and staff are passionate about dental health and providing patients with superior dental care. Amalgam fillings have been a hallmark of dentistry for decades. Amalgam or silver fillings are often the most predictable way to restore teeth that are broken or have cavities. For those that would prefer tooth colored fillings (composites) are also a great esthetic way to restore your smile. There are circumstances in which composite serves better than amalgams and vice-versa.
In dentistry, a veneer is a thin layer of material placed over a tooth, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth or to protect the tooth's surface from damage. There are two main types of material used to fabricate a veneer: composite and dental porcelain. A composite veneer may be directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth.
Along with his wife Caryn, Dr. Jay cherishes time with family especially their three children Jim, Will, and Elizabeth. Inspired by his passion for dentistry, Dr. Jay lives by his mission statement: To develop long lasting relationships through quality dentistry. Dr. Tami was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD.
Always avoid putting baby to bed with a bottle of anything other than water. If you are unsure or uncomfortable about this early care, we would be happy to review good oral care with you as soon as teeth are visable. We start seeing children as early as age 2. At this visit the hygienist will polish the child's teeth and the dentist will do an exam and answer any questions parents have about their child's oral health.

I have had Dr. Tami Kapperman for over 20 years. She is a very knowledgeable and kind person who really knows what's she's doing and is able to get me at ease and comfortable. When my children were little, I had the misfortune of taking them to The Children's Dental Center. I hated the fact that I couldn't go back with them. I took them to Dr. Jay and he was amazing with all 3 of my boys. Also, they do have nitrous for those who would like it, like me. I highly recommend The Kapperman Dental Clinic to any person at any age. The staff are great and I have never had anything but great experiences

The staff are absolutely wonderful. Treat you as family. I've been coming for years and it's always like visiting family. Jay has been my dentist through those years. I consider him a great friend.
