Founded in 2015, Flow Acupuncture was founded by Melissa Zappa with a vision of making acupuncture a well-known and accessible form of healthcare to all individuals in the Salt Lake City area. Flow Acupuncture has been committed to providing highly skilled, individualized, and affordable acupuncture since its inception.
Acupuncture needles decrease inflammation at a cellular level to reduce pain, swelling, and the body's inflammatory response. Microtrauma at the sites of acupuncture points encourage the body to mobilize red and white blood cells to encourage tissue recovery and circulation. Studies using fMRI technology demonstrate that acupuncture activates a parasympathetic response within the brain during treatment.
Do not eat or drink brightly colored foods (or coffee!) that may stain or alter the color of your mouth and tongue. Wear loose, comfortable clothing with sleeves or legs that can be easily rolled up or removed. During your first appointment we will discuss your current state of health in great detail.

This was my first experience with acupuncture. I was amazed at how detailed Vanessa was. She asked me so many insightful questions and was clearly interested in my overall health not just my tennis elbow. The treatment was very thorough and effective. My husband suffered a spinal stroke and required emergency spinal surgery; upon his release from rehab hospital (6 weeks later), we began accupuncture treatments with Dr. Ali Young. We are extremely pleased with this addition to our overall treatment plan which includes PT and massage therapy. My husband's spinal surgeon and neurologist are very impressed with his recovery to-date (4 months) and we feel confident Dr. Ali's supportive accupuncture treatments are contributing highly to his successful results.

The studio is lovely however the practitioners are overbooked. If you're set on going here, do your best to get an appointment during a time slot that won't be too popular.
During my last session, a practitioner left both cups and needles on for far too long. It has taken my body quite a long time to recover.
Do not fall victim to the poor booking/time-management drawbacks in favor of a pretty studio- your body won't like it.

I received acupuncture and cupping from Alessandra a few days ago and had a wonderful experience. She was very pleasant, knowledgeable, gentle and kind during our session. As a former massage therapist I have received acupuncture from a variety of providers and was impressed by her skill. My chronic back pain is significantly better after receiving treatment. I will definitely be returning for monthly visits and have already scheduled my next appointment. Highly recommended!

Melissa is as personable as she is wise in her healing art. Her studio (office?) is warm and inviting, especially on a snowy day in Salt Lake. While pricey, she offers discounts for purchasing 4+ sessions and as easy to book with.
