In honor of the summer solstice 2020, here is a short tutorial for "Classic" Sun Salutations: For thousands of years, the Hindus have revered the sun, Surya, as both the physical and spiritual heart of our world and the creator of life itself, the "eye of the world".
Ancient Indians would recite chants since the Vedic period to honor the sun, and over time this chant became a dynamic series of poses, using the breath to create the rhythm of the movement. In more recent times, people began stringing a series of 108 of these salutations together, without pausing, to honor the Summer Solstice.

In October of 2020 I was fat, miserable and looking for direction. Fast forward to February 2021 and I have a membership with the studio. I'm down in weight and my spirits haven't been this high in a long while. The art of balance studio has given me the gift of yoga and the strength to keep going. Never in a million years did I think I'd be able to hold a crow pose or gold a figure four balance. They have opened my mind and my heart to so many new experiences. Some say that yoga saved their life. I think that art of balance gave me a new life. I truly can't thank them enough. If you are considering

The best Yoga studio in the Fredericksburg area in my humble opinion. Like other reviewers said, the teachers at AOB are quite skilled at knowledge of various styles of Yoga and their many associated poses, but also emphasize connection between breath, body, and mindset. They also improvise and make each class tailored to the group, checking in with individual students before, during, and after each class. You may find your stability and awareness you thought were lost in the chaos have stayed tucked away all of this time and now you can practice them as much as you want.

After practicing yoga at one of the local gyms and trying out several local yoga studios I came to AOB yoga and knew I had found my yoga home. During my time at AOB yoga I have also taken the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in addition to many of the classes. Their teacher training is very through. Each teacher at AOB yoga brings something special to the studio and to their classes and is always willing to answer questions out of class.

I have taken many classes at Art of Balance whenever I am in Fredericksburg. They have very talented teachers, two beautiful spaces for classes, and a committed student clientele. As a yoga teacher specializing in teaching older folks, I have also been asked to teach a workshop the last three years for their teacher training. The workshop was open to all and I've experienced great satisfaction in teaching at Art of Balance. Lili, Jen, Lauren, Maria, Elsa, Trish and all the other teachers are truly gifted. Students of all levels can find classes to suit them. It is a marvelous place, and I highly

It was almost 5 years ago that I first entered the door at Art of Balance Yoga Studio. My yoga knowledge was extremely limited, but for several months I had been discussing the benefits of yoga with my manager. Then we found brochures and free class passes in our lunch room. The die was cast and we made our way to the studio for our very first class! I have always been pretty flexible but my balance and strength were no more than average at best and Down Dog was really the only pose I knew. Lili, studio owner and yoga instructor extraordinaire, greeted us and helped get our small group set up for

Love everything about Art of Balance. Caring , compassionate, extremely knowledgeable instructors that make you feel like you are a part of their yoga family. I have met so many wonderful friends there. I started doing yoga for the benefits of the practice, but Art of Balance and their instructors and students gave me so much more. I joined Art of Balance over a year ago and I am still super happy that I found this awesome studio! No matter what you are looking for – basics – advanced – restorative – you will find it here! The teachers are great! They help me to advance my yoga practice but also remind me in every single class that yoga is not about the perfect pose but about self-acceptance. It’s the perfect and inspiring mixture of meditation and joyful laughter.
