Fall and winter are right around the corner. Along with the cooler weather, this season also brings hazards for your horses - acorns and persimmons. Every year we treat multiple severe colics due to their ingestion. These colics are very hard to treat and are frequently fatal. We often talk about "winterizing" your horse to get them prepared for the cold weather which requires them to burn extra calories to maintain body temperature.

If your horse is underweight going into the winter months, it is extremely hard to maintain optimal body condition. We recommend a dental exam and a fecal test to check for internal parasites. We also recommend starting a fat supplement now if your horse is borderline underweight. Geriatric horses are prone to dental problems and usually require extra calories to maintain body condition.
Services
My wife, Karen, and I practice together in the perfect little town of Rose Bud. While our practice encompasses many, many miles all over Central Arkansas and beyond, it is always good to come home in the evening to our ranch between Rose Bud and Romance. We feel so blessed to be able to come to work everyday, to do a job we love, with people we love to be with - our customers and friends.
Donna's title is customer service rep, but she handles many duties around the clinic. She has been with Pallone Veterinary Hospital for 20 years - 17 years full-time and 3 years part-time. Donna's furry family consists of Prissy, a Pekingese rescue. As a large animal vet assistant, Kim takes care of the "big" guys and gals at Pallone Veterinary Hospital.
