Services
In 1968, Kent R. Palmer and his wife Dolores, owners of the Palmer Funeral Homes in North Liberty and Walkerton, sold their equity and moved to South Bend. Within the next six years, Kent acquired three funeral homes in St. Joseph County. The Orvis Funeral Home in South Bend, the Harden Funeral Home in Lakeville and the Hollis Funeral Home in River Park.
The initial cemetery had its first burial in 1836. In 1909, the Palmer's Prairie Cemetery was founded and more acreage was purchased. In 1924, additional land was needed and a group of area businessmen formed a corporation, issued shares of stock for capital, purchased 45 acres, and the cemetery was renamed Southlawn Cemetery.
When it comes to your final arrangements, shouldn't you make the decisions? The arrangements you make will reflect your exact wishes and desires. Pre-arranging your own service will help to ease the burden of your loved ones. It will also alleviate any questions, problems or differences, which can occur among family members.
Cremation planning can be made for immediate need or for advanced funeral planning. Palmer Funeral Homes owns and operates our private crematory. Your loved one will be in our care during the cremation process, instead of using a third-party crematory. We, the Palmer staff, are here to answer your questions and to assist you before, during and after the loss of your loved one.
Palmer Funeral Homes and Southlawn Cemetery have pre-arrangement services designed specifically for the working person. Funeral planning, is as important as estate planning. It provides a culture for planning, thinking for the future, and taking responsibility.

With your permission, we will send a letter to each of your employees explaining the pre-arrangement process, defining pre-arrangement advantages, and assessing their level of interest in the process. The letter will state, that your business has been given discounted pricing for having the foresight to offer funeral planning.

There's no parking. My friend passed and they gave the family & friends only 30 minutes to see him. They literally "shooed" us out.

Kerry Palmer went out of his way to make my wife's funeral special. No request was to much for him. I would highly recommend any of the Palmer staff. If there were six stars, I would give it.
