Mike and Margaret moved up from the over-sized state of Texas at the end of 2013, just in time for the winter of all winters in Louisville, Kentucky. They both really like acupuncture and really only community acupuncture at that. It makes this job a lot more fun.
Both Mike and Margaret have completed acupuncture and Oriental medicine training at AOMA - Graduate School of Integrative Medicine in Austin, TX and are both certified as acupuncturists by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure and the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).Margaret comes from a small town in West Texas called Marfa.

Services
Acupuncture is the shallow insertion of sterile, single use needles to specific points on the body. If this does not sound weird to you, it probably should. Who wants needles stuck in them? Not everyone, but lots. Acupuncture is a safe and effective remedy for a variety of conditions. It has survived for thousands of years as a healing modality.
Here's a handy little document to give you some idea up front what to expect with regards to treatment planning. Again, this is how we find acupuncture can work best: with regular frequent applications. That frequency varies with regards to what is going on, but we want you to get a sense and not think we are going to tell you something completely different when you get here.
Cupping therapy is a simple technique of using a glass bulb to create a strong suction on muscle and connective tissue. Cupping has many therapeutic uses, but we use it as an adjunct treatment for musculoskeletal issues, primarily of the back and shoulders. You can think of it as fairly intense, deep tissue work.
Dry needling is a technique of using the acupuncture needle to release trigger points in muscle fiber. These irritations can build up in muscles from over-strain or repetitive stress. Everyone has them to some extent. All muscles develop them. All activity gets repetitive or fatiguing at some point.
Acupuncture and Oriental medicine training often involves a lot of study about Chinese herbology. At least it did at our acupuncture school. We currently stock a small pharmacy of about 20 patent formulas and topicals. A patent is an herbal formula that has been decocted and been put into a tablet or pill form.

Louisville Community Acupuncture is wonderful. I started seeing Margaret a few months ago and at first I was skeptical because I’d never tried acupuncture or cupping. Margaret is very calming, knowledgeable and professional. I have seen significant improvements in my neck and shoulder pain. It has also helped with my anxiety. I love that this business is designed to help people that may not be able to afford acupuncture in other locations.

I have been coming here over the years for a variety of reasons and always had an amazing experience; very personalized treatment with a blissful “acu-nap”. I’ve recently been going more regularly to treat chronic acid reflux, between the needling and the herbs recommended I’m officially off prescription medication for the first time in year! Thank you so much for all you do!!

I have been going here for a month or so, maybe 7 visits, for a torn rotator cuff. The clinic is friendly, comfortable. Margaret initially treated me with acupuncture and cupping. I saw some good results. I was confused about whether to do strengthening or mobility exercises. Margaret worked with me and explained the benefit of low resistance. After some visits, I saw Mike for some dry needling, which was immensely helpful. Mike seemed to be correct in assessing that I had a referred pain from a shoulder blade, manifesting in my outer shoulder. Eventually I will go back to regular acupuncture and

Mike and Margaret are excellent at what they do! They really work with me to accomplish what I needed help with whether it was seasonal allergies, hormonal balancing, or needing to de-stress. I try to go once or twice a month to keep things in balance. Plus, you can't beat the price! They are worth so much more than what they charge!
