Mr. Simon V. Avara purchased International Academy of Hair Design & Technology, located at the corner of Pratt and Stricker streets in Baltimore City, in 1960, opening to students shortly thereafter. Over the years our student body has continued to grow through the referrals of our graduates and through our reputation of a quality barbering-stylist school.
All students are required to complete 1200 hours of training as designated by the Maryland laws. Our courses include a complete basic barbering program, haircutting/styling for male and female clients, color / highlighting, and permanent waving. Theory instructions are taught under our prescribed textbook.
Avara's Academy of Hair and International Academy of Hair also offer a course to licensed cosmetologists who may want to add barbering to their field of training. The required time is (600) hours in accordance with Maryland law. However, the cosmetologist license must be current and in good standing to receive the (600) hours credit.
The 160 Hour program is designed for licensed professionals whose license is in good standing and who has been out of the industry for an extended period of time and is looking to hone their skills in addition want to brush up on latest styles and techniques. Our objective with this course is to do a quick overview of our schools current curriculum - See Basic Barbering Curriculum.

It was a pleasant experience, as always. The barber took his time, and even thanked me for my patience when he was done. When he was confused on what to do next or how to do something, a member of the more experienced staff was swift in their helping him. The students are always eager to learn, watching whenever one of the instructors has to step in to help one of their contemporaries. If you want to save money (and still get a quality haircut), then this is the place for you. There is absolutely no reason to not get yer future haircuts here.

I am not sure about why any of those who left a negative review here but my first experience being here at Avara's Academy of Hair Design was awesome and very good with pricing. Paid only $8 for a very good haircut that would have costed me over double elsewhere at various other hair salons in the area. The staff was fun to talk with and the communication was good. I think i ran into the owner as i came in with my mother whom helped me get it. He seemed pretty nice and even noticed my eyebrows needed a trimming which even i did not notice before coming there and did not charge extra which was nice

I absolutely LOVE this school. I have learned so much while attending, and taught so many different techniques when cutting hair, from Mr Larry, Mrs Tina, Mr Ashwin, Mrs Candace, and all the other instructors that have helped to shape my knowledge of hair cutting.
I had the best experience there, and would recommend this school to anyone looking to take their life and career into their own hands, on their way to gaining true independence. Much love to you guys. Keep up the great work.

The first time I cut my hair here in early June the barber was called Rick. He cut my hair really well, and also trimmed and shaped my beard in a very good style. He works weekends as a waiter at Nacho Mama's in Canton, which is a really good place. I mean to give it a review but haven't quite done it yet. It's a very good place for comfort food or just having a drink with friends.
I was going to cut my hair again with him, but because of scheduling problems I wasn't able to come in when he was in. The second time I cut my hair here the last Saturday in July it was Amil who did both jobs. He gave
