Services
Honolulu Vision Care Center proudly serves Honolulu as we have for over 30 years when we were the Hawaii Kai branch of the Vision Care Centers of Hawaii. We understand that vision is priceless. Our Optometrists use sophisticated equipment and skill to examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases and disorders of the eye.
In order to maintain healthy eyes, it is strongly recommended that you visit a healthcare provider to test your vision once per calendar year. All doctors at Honolulu Vision Care Center are State Board Certified to practice the full scope of Optometry which includes diagnosing, treating, and managing ocular disease with therapeutics.
We carefully review and select our frame and contact lens providers so that you can trust we have what you need. Visit us for your medical needs and walk away with a "new look" beyond just healthy vision. Our unique collection includes limited edition Hawaii frames and sunglasses, "Asian fit" eyewear, and the latest customization options.
We accept Cash, Personal Check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, Flex spending account cards, JCB, UnionPay, Diner's Club and most debit cards. Plus, we now accept mobile payments through Apple Pay and Android Pay! Usually a couple of hours. However, it may take longer depending upon the individual's eyes and the type of dilation drops the doctor determines are best for the examination.
Below is a sample list of insurance plans that we accept. However, our relationship is with you, our patient, and not with your insurance plan. Your insurance policy is a contract between you, your employer, and your insurance company. We strongly recommend that you contact your insurance company prior to your visit to confirm that your individual plan has the coverage needed for vision and the services you are seeking.

Dr. Chan and the staff at the Honolulu Vision Care Center are wonderful! I've been going to them for over a decade and they are always professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. She's up to date on the latest products and treatments that are best for my specific needs, and her recommendations have always been on point.

My hubby and I needed new glasses. Costco didn't have appointments until next year and this was September. The appointment was for October so yay! The safety protocols were outstanding. If it's not your turn you wait outside. They ask screening questions beforehand and take temperature upon arrival. The exam was thorough. Their frame selection was excellent and I found a pair in my budget quickly. The glasses were ready in a week. I'm so glad Costco was backed up because I'd never think to go anywhere else. Now this is my new go to.

I've been going to a lot of medical offices during our COVID-19 pandemic and the optometrists and staff here are far and above the most focused on patient screening, health, and safety that I have encountered.
I can understand how some might view the process as being cumbersome and excessive but Based on my own experiences here I feel perfectly safe dropping off my dad, who is in a high risk group due to his age, and leaving him completely in their hands during his appointment.

Great visit as usual, friendly and professional staff but not overly friendly which irritates me. Even under COVID-19 the steps they are taking aren't over the top and burdensome. I think the office has stuck a nice balance between doing what is enough and not going over the top like some places. I've been to some places where they are going way beyond what is needed, they are doing things just to do things and it makes it a burden for staff and customer. I think when it reaches that point, at a certain time staff will start to get lax on cleaning because it's a hassle. The one thing

Dr Chan and her staff are just amazing. I am absolutely blown away by the care and service I have received from them. I have been having a lot of issues with left eye suddenly and let me tell you - it has been scary to deal with, painful, and I have been having a very hard time with it. Dr Chan has gone above and beyond to accommodate seeing me when needed, helping me navigate a plan to get my eye feeling better, giving me the re assurance I need during our appointments and answering all of my questions. She is a hard working doctor who truly cares about her patients and what she does, and it shows

With these extraordinary times, I found it necessary to not only update my appointment, but also obtain a vision certificate in advance of an upcoming appointment at the DMV. In the past I have gone to a competitor (Costco) for economical reasons. The staff and professional doctors at Honolulu Vision Center treated me with kid gloves from the moment I called them. Prompt, professional, caring, and knowledgeable. In these Covid-19 times, I really felt safe there. For a couple of dollars more, you owe it to yourself to experience this great company. Since I lost my insurance due to the pandemic,

It's sad the way they treat long time patients. I'd rather drive all the way to Waipahu and see Dr. Ede. Newer staff seem inexperienced with a lack of attention to basic details like cleaning equipment between patient exams. Have yet to see Dr. Chan who seems to be at this location only on M/T/Th and doesn't do exams T afternoons. Treatment I received from other doctors and service when you arrive is mediocre at best.

Staff is always wonderful at this office but it took me a little over 2 hours for my check-up, and if I didnt speak up and ask if that was normal, no one would have done anything - since they said it wasnt normal and it just happen to be backed up that day. I had another Dr. and it made me realize how much I miss Dr. Ede.This other doctor referred to my pterygium (sp) as "the stuff on my eye," and I wondered what his experience was with dealing with patients with pterygium. Also, this other Dr. touched/stretched above and below my eyes as he assessed my eyes, and I felt uncomfortable

This office is fantastic! The staff greeted me warmly and welcomed me to the office for my first visit. The doctor is very friendly and explained everything to me as we went through the different parts of the exam. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to come visit. They even helped me pick my frames when I couldn't choose between two pairs.

I first went here about 10+ years ago when the Honolulu Medical Group was going through a trying period financially and was downsizing its staff of doctors and assistants and specialists, so I decided to try this establishment as it was close to home. This place was owned and operated by Dr. Ede. I was met with friendliness and professionalism, and with never any signs of being 'unwelcomed'.
Dr. Ede and staff have *always* been friendly. It is a treat just watching them meet and speak with clients, or walk-ins with inquiries---made it feel like you as a customer will NEVER be intimidated

Maui Jim Prescription Sunglasses! I wasted a couple months shopping online, driving to different Eyeglass stores, thinking it would be cheaper & quiker.... Nope! I found the Best price here in Hawaii Kai and SUPER Fast. I ordered them Thursday morning and Monday they arrived! The price was at least 35% less than other places & online. Excellent service from the staff, I am now ordering replacement lens for my back up pair.

I would like to start off the review that I haven't been to Dr. Ede as a patient and got to know him through an event I volunteered for called "Rotary Saves Lives" on the 4th of July.
There was a table that he brought out and we set it up together. From there he had a bunch of fliers, brochures, and an activity book for children setup. Then we went ahead and setup the eye examination in front of his place of business. I started to read through the brochures so I would know what to hand out to folks that came by, and he let me know which ones were

My family and I have been seeing Dr Nora Chan for about four years now .... she is a treasure !!! My mom had been to several well known eye Dr.'s regarding a pressure and something unusual in her right side ... no one could find anything and brushed it off, my mom went to Dr Chan and she validated something was not right after very thorough exams... she sent her for a scan where they indeed found a brain tumor ... my mom knew she wasn't imagining the oddness and we are all grateful for her so my mom can be monitored on a regular basis ..... since then my sister and I have gotten our
