Services
Do you have astigmatism, nearsightedness, farsightedness or another eye problem? Experience clear vision once again with help from South Penn Eye Care in Hanover, Pennsylvania and Westminster, MD. From standard vision exams to cataract surgery, we offer comprehensive eye care services for the entire family in two convenient eye care centers.
Dr. John Baer and the staff at South Penn Eye Care want to make sure that we have the information we need to take the best possible care of your eyes. Please review the following information before your visit. We accept most major insurances; however, please remember that you are responsible for understanding your insurance coverage and for paying any copays at the time of your visit.
If you want to see better and preserve the health of your eyes, you've come to the right place. John Baer, MD, a board certified ophthalmologist, and Edward Sauble, OD, licensed optometrist, and Erika Beaver, a licensed optometrist, use their years of eye care expertise to give you the best possible vision.
Recent scientific studies have confirmed what your mother always knew: a healthier diet is good for your eye sight. Yellowish pigments called carotenoids are critical to vision. They are found in large quantities in kale, spinach and other dark green leafy vegetables, but also broccoli, green beans, corn, oranges, tomatoes and, yes, carrots.
You'll love South Penn Eye Care's spacious new office at the JCK Center in Westminster, Maryland. Our new optical boutique offers the convenience of being able to select a stylish pair of glasses from our wide selection of designer frames in the same place and time as your eye exam. Our optical professionals will help you find the right glasses to complement your look.

It's a shame you can't give zero stars or negative points for places like this. I very rarely give bad reviews, but I think people need to be warned about this establishment. If you have any type of medical emergency they will turn you away without a second thought. They are cold and they are careless. I can only imagine the way they treat their patients that may need some sort of extra care or may have trouble paying their bills. It's a shame that people that take an oath to help others are really only interested in treating people that are suffering like cash cows.

From the one star reviews on this page, I would not recognize the place I've been going to for a number of years now; while if I had an emergency with my eyes, I would go to an emergency room at a hospital instead (as that's where physicians are to attend to emergencies), I've found the specialists at South Penn Eye Care to be caring, instructive, totally professional, even in these times of COVID.

Scheduled my annual appointment and the day before my appointment, I received a call that they had to cancel my appointment which happens. Rescheduled the appointment for two months out from my original appointment. Fast forward to the day before my appointment and once again I receive a phone call reporting they need to reschedule my appointment due to a scheduling issue and was unable to give me an appointment without pushing it out several months. Very disappointed.

Don’t even bother, called for an emergency and was cut off mid-sentence and told they aren’t accepting new “emergencies.” How do you not help an emergency? What is an “old emergency?” Was referred by a prominent practice, will definitely let them know this establishment doesn’t want patients.

Waited 2 hrs before Doctor came in. When I explained that I couldn't wait any longer I felt he was dismissive, saying only "Well, we got you an appt" (this wasnt a last minute appt or walk in, I was scheduled weeks in advance) Would have left sooner but had eye issues and needed to be seen. An older gentleman in waiting room was complaining of feeling ill because he had to wait so long. Only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the office girls were very sweet. I'll drive to York to another Doctor before I go there again.
