Ashworth Road Animal Hospital was established in 1957 and, for that entire time, has had one goal. That goal is to provide the best veterinary medical and surgical care possible for your pet. Through the years both knowledge and technology has advanced and we strive to stay on the leading edge to better serve you and your pet.
Our practice offers services such as in-house and commercial lab testing, digital x-rays, IV fluid therapy, laser surgery, laser therapy, patient monitoring, dentistry with digital x-ray capability, and wound care. We are able to perform many lab tests at our hospital, which offers a quicker diagnosis for your pet and added convenience to you.

Our goal has been to assemble a veterinary health care team committed to providing exceptional client service and veterinary health care. 1. Payment is expected when services are rendered. In order to focus on our patients' needs, customer service and minimizing costs, we do not bill. 2. We accept debit cards, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) checks and cash. All cards must be signed by the owner of the card. From routine appointments to emergency situations or surgeries, the CareCredit card gives pet owners the peace of mind needed to care for pets big and small.
Ashworth Road Animal Hospital understands what arthritis in pets can do to your pet and how hard it is for owners to manage. No one wants to see your pet in pain. We know all too well the many potential causes of pain in pets, including arthritis - and the many conditions that, if left untreated, can lead to arthritis.

I've been taking my dogs to Ashworth Road Animal Hospital for over 30 years. My puppy was recently spayed plus had another surgery and Dr. Merk was especially conscientious to make sure all went well. I noticed some swelling a couple days later and called the office. They got us in immediately and made sure she was doing ok.
All of the staff are friendly and professional and they care about your pet.

They do a fantastic job. I have had my cats in for about 3 years plus now since moving back to West Des Moines and I won't go anywhere else. Dr Niemand is very patient with my one cat Boots, even with his attitude 😀 she was also the most comforting when I had to put down my other cat. My concerns are always addressed promptly.

Dr. Sara Niemand has always made a special effort to care for Rocco, our Bichon Frisé, keeping in mind his personality and behavior. She always takes the time to explain us his health issues. She is truly a professional and passionate about her job.
The staff is very kind and friendly. The office is super clean and the waiting room has never overcrowded when we were there.
We highly recommend Ashworth Road Animal Hospital for its professionalism, efficiency, and appointment flow.

Ive left 2 reviews in my life but this is so ridiculous im going to post this in hopes it helps someone not make the mistake i did. Taking my dog here for 3 years since his birth. On multiple occasions I've tried to make appointments and they are always booked out like a month. The dog accidentally ate a piece of a toy and needed surgery. They said not only are they to busy but they don't feel comfortable doing that surgery anyway and take him someplace else. They said on multiple occasions they do it all or I would have found another vet anyway. Most vets even if they are booked will try to squeeze

Being a first timer to a vet with my puppy, I was very nervous and didn’t know what to expect. I can easily say I am beyond impressed with the professionalism, efficiency and flow of the appointment. Thank you to loving rest pet cemetery, they took great care of both of my babies at the end and I appreciate that. Emergency vets on 63rd, at 3 a.m. and you know there's nothing else you can do, and you know it's time, they were loving for Kibber and me, thank you. Ashworth animal hospital you weren't Annie's normal Vet but I knew I had to stop the pain, and stop it now, you were gracious enough to give me an immediately appointment. Thank you.

Sasha, our 8 week old Samoyed had her first appointment today with Dr. Kobberdahl today. She made us both feel very welcome and comfortable. We had an 8:30 am appointment and had a very short wait. I was concerned Sasha’s anxiety, as she’s only on day 2 from the breeder, could be an issue, but that quickly melted away and she felt relaxed both in the waiting room and in the exam room. We have our next two visits on the books.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Merk since moving to WDM in 2010. She is an excellent veterinarian, she really takes the time to listen and ensure no questions are unanswered and she is truly compassionate. I love the rest of the staff too, the front desk associates and vet techs are always very friendly and helpful.
