Since 1936, Portland Disposal & Recycling, Inc. has been providing reliable garbage, recycling and compost collection services to the Portland community. As a locally owned, family-run company, we provide all the convenience of a national company while maintaining our local integrity. We strive to make the Portland area a little better each day.
Residential garbage and recycling service in Portland is franchised. The City of Portland's Bureau of Planning and Sustainability regulates the residential collection of garbage and recycling by the local companies. Each company has specific boundaries in which they can provide service to residences.
Portland Disposal will provide one 60-gallon blue "Portland Recycles!" roll cart for mixed recycling and one yellow bin for glass for our residential customers with regular garbage service. You can roll your cart to the curb by 6 am on any collection day when it is comfortably full for you. Please don't obstruct the containers from view or place them in a way that makes them difficult to get to.
Our residential customers with regular service will be provided with a 60-gallon green "Portland Composts!" roll cart for your yard debris and food scraps collection. The owner is a cranky old woman who doesn’t hold herself or her employees accountable. Don’t use this service because your needs won’t be met and she’ll argue with you every chance she gets because she thinks her company can do no wrong. SHES ALWAYS WRONG. Keep your conversations in writing as she will try and manipulate your statements and over charge you for a job that’s not done.

Our garbage pick-up service was missed twice in a row, but the representative claimed it was not set out (which she also claims was "documented" by the driver. When asked to see the documentation, she refused to provide it.) She was accusatory, requested images of our cans be sent to her personal cell phone as proof, and argued with my husband about whether he or myself take the cans out at night.
Our garbage can has clearly been set out in accordance with Portland Disposal's rules, (as with our neighbors,) yet it still has been missed. She said she would send the driver back FOR A RE-PICK UP

Generally a poor company with poor service. I have used them (because we have no other option) for the last 17 years and I've had several issues with them over the years and recently I ordered a dumpster and paid for it but it never arrived. They were apologetic but that does not help the crew I had waiting for it. I simply cannot and would not recommend this company.
Some of the worst customer service I've experienced. They definitely know that you don't have a choice in garbage service and they make sure you know it too. I would recommend that the City of Portland not renew their contract.

I had a problem with a problem with pickup of recycling. I called to have my complaint recorded and was hung up on by the person on the other end.
Generally service is as it should be, but the one time I have a full recycling can, it fails to be collected.
In this business, it's a pretty binary result, either it's a job done, or not a job done, this time, the job wasn't done.

They went above and beyond when we forgot to put out our bins. Came and grabbed, even though we were late! When a bin has been stolen, it was replaced immediately. Very responsive and friendly!

Portland Disposal and Recycling’s service is not very reliable for consistence garbage pickup. And when their employees don’t pick up the garage you have to what until the next scheduled day. They will tell you “You won’t be charges for addition garbage.”. So that means you and your neighbors get to show off the full heavy duty garbage bags in our driveways.

Portland Disposal and Recycling also offers affordable dumpster rentals with short-notice delivery for all of your home renovation needs. My only regret was not getting a bigger dumpster ;)

I’ve not ever had a problem with Waste Management. They are on time and have never missed a pickup. I try to put my bins in order so they can pick up easily, or at least I think I do, bc I can only imagine some of the situations that occur for them on the daily. They also have very responsive pleasant customer service reps.

I have been a customer of Portland Disposal and Recycling since last Dec.
In the last 6 months, I have had my trash missed more time than I can count.
I have called and spoke with multiple employees, most recently last week (Elaine).
She apologized and said that someone would pick up my extra trash free of charge.
Another week MY TRASH HAS NOT BEEN PICKED UP.
I've literally had to fill my garage with our trash because I have no where else to place it.
I have two newborns and it is ridiculous to have to beg a company that I pay for to come get my trash.

I called and spoke to Jennifer to get a dumpster she was very helpful and answered all my questions. I called back a few days later spoke to Melissa who was rude, became angry with me because I asked some additional, she actually raised her voice and yelled at me. I called my husband at work and he called and spoke to the office manager who actually told him we can get a dumpster at other places in
Portland he said yes you are right we will do that, he tried to give her feed back but she was as rude as Melissa so we understand why Melissa is allowed to treat customers that way. Bummer for them

Great service! Ordered a 30 yard dumpster. Driver put it right in the perfect spot. Ended up needing a second dropbox. They came and swapped me out same day.

I recently called Portland Disposal because I forgot to put my garabage cans out. This would have been a disaster as all three were filled to the brim. The customer service lady said it may cost me a small fee if the trucks had left my neighborhood. I told her I was seeing the trucks driving around my blocks. A few minutes later she called me back to say the trucks had left, but all three were willing to come back free of charge!
Many people post terrible things about their garbage service and these stories may be true. But I felt compelled to say that I have had nothing but great service

Just called to ask why my glass recycling has not been emptied for 2 weeks. When we got the rolling carts (10 years ago???) my yellow bins were taken away and I was left a GLASS ONLY stick to put on a bin of my choice. Well that has been gone for a couple of years and my glass has been picked up. I have heard this story before --- first my fault for not having a yellow bin but I over talked her and made her understand they were TAKEN away. I think I have never seen a company with such bad reviews stay in business. It is a city-approved monopoly. Three times in the past two months they have not emptied my blue bin or yellow bin or both, and one of those times didn't get the gray bin, either. I think I wouldn't mind so much if at least customer service really was. It is astonishing how they make it my fault, no matter what. I know the rules; it's been 25 years. Today, they had no record of my calling in before today! Seriously. If I don't tell them there is a problem, they don't know. That is the company

Last night the recycling at my apartment building was picked up at 1:50 am!!!!!!!!! Really?!?!?!?!?!? Should they even be out at this hour in a SE residential neighborhood, dragging around the dumpsters in the garage right below my apartment? Getting woken up is never fun, but I could understand a 4:30 or 5 am pick up... but not 1:50 am. Not okay. Nope.

I imagine 99% of people who write in about trash and garbage hauling are people who have had bad experiences. This co. has been doing my trash/garbage/compost/recycling for 17 years, and I have zero complaints. Some of people's bad experiences may be based on particular drivers, so maybe I have a good route.

I've used dropbox service probably 5 or 6 times over the years, and they are always helpful and courteous. No complaints there, either. This is the one service where they can set their own rates, thad PDX Disposal's are lower than the other's I've checked.

Terrible customer service and lazy drivers. I put out my yard waste bucket from PD&R and the driver only took 1/2 of the bucket and left me a note saying it weighed over 55 lbs and that 32 gallon cans can't exceed that weight. The thing is, my can is a 60 gallon standard issue can which has a 135 lb limit according to Portland Disposal & Recycling paperwork. I called today and nicely explained my situation and the receptionist was rude and very argumentative over the phone and defended the drivers. She refused to schedule an additional pickup. I travel for work and many weeks do not

Garbage collection is normally something we take for granted; you put your garbage and recycling on the curb on collection day and when you come home from work it's been picked up. Yesterday I was home doing dishes looking out the window when the trucks started rolling through. The compost collector came through and all was fine. Then the garbage collector came through.... I had my glass separated into the yellow bin. He picked them up and THREW THEM INTO MY DRIVEWAY! I couldn't believe it! I'm doing dishes and watching a grown man throw a temper tantrum in my driveway! Then he jumped

This company claims to be a "franchise" of the city then uses the city as an excuse as to why their service is terrible.

Case in point, when you go on vacation they will credit you for not using the service - but only a portion. This means they are ripping their customers off for $98.44 per year, or nearly 1/3. I spoke with the owner who claimed this was "per a financial analyst hired by the city". I am sure it was, he was hired to figure out an easy way to rip people off as is the custom for all cities and governments. The city that works my as$$$ss. Why would you still

The people that you deal with are THE WORST.

They will hang up on you, I assume because they are looking for an answer to your question, intead of just politely asking if you will wait in hold like a regular human would. I know this because they say,"wait and I'll ask my manager." (in a disturbingly rude tone) then CLICK.

They routeenly find ways to interrupt, disconnect a call, make snide remarks under their breath like "OMG people these days." And "it's like you're slow" and all because you asked a simple question like "is there any way I
