Frank & Karen Machado, after owning the Berry Farm, Pizza Farm, Red Robin Inn & Machado's Bar & Grill In the 60's, 70's and 80's in the Bay Area City of Santa Clara, sold out to move & kick back in on small ranch in Stevinson Ca., near Frank's home town Hilmar. Frank missed the comraderie of being around people got restless & very bored.

Do not eat the salad here! The waitresses do not use utensils, they use their hands. The cooks make the best food and it's so delicious. However, the owner is always in the back "cooking" too and doesn't follow safety precautions. He literally "makes up" different prices every day. Be careful when you order, he will literally change the prices and then make the waitresses pay the difference (which is illegal).
The waitresses are friendly and the cook is amazing but that's it. Would NOT recommend this place, especially the salad !

Good, but the food used to be superb. It's lost its luster. For the price, there are better options. Steaks were fatty and gristly instead of well marbled. Prime rib was soft and stringy instead of tender and succulent.
There's a lot to love though. Service was outstanding! Seating was comfy and decor charming for a valley destination like the Elegant Bull.
Local Portuguese delicacies are wonderful across the board.
We will probably try again someday, but the food quality needs to jump up or they really need to cut about 15% off most entrees to be competitive.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner with some friends. It was our first time here and will be the last time as well. Why? Because (1) it is expensive here. I ordered wild caught salmon. Which came with veggies (a few pieces of it) and your choice of mashed potatoes, fries, baked potato, etc. So I got the fries. It also came with salad drenched in dressing. The cost: $37. My boyfriend ordered chicken Alfredo with prawns. He chose fries as well with his. It also came with salad but dressing on the side. The cost: $42. This leads me to the 2nd reason why we wouldn't go back here....my salmon

Was very leery after reading some of the reviews but I have to say we had an excellent evening. We've been to Elegant Bull a few times in the past so we knew what to expect. We had a new waitress and she was very sweet. I ordered Scalamari and my husband ordered rack of lamb. My scallops and calimari steak were so tender my fork floated thru it like butter. The rack of lamb was sooo tender and done to perfection at medium rare. We loved everything about our evening, including the nice surprise dessert for our anniversary! We would go again in a heartbeat!

Been going here for our anniversaries, birthday's, and random cravings for about 2 decades now. Never disappoints. Formal dress to work jeans is acceptable. Food is wonderful and atmosphere is relaxed. From romantic dinner by candle light, or just sit at the bar and watch a game. Steaks are never over seasoned or salted like they are trying to hide something, you get quality meat you paid for.

We made reservations for Father's Day. When we arrived, we found out that they had a 'special' menu for that day & you could not order off of their main menu. (The whole reason we chose this restaurant was because of the food on their main menu-which wasn't on the 'special' menu.) They should have told us when we made the reservation that they'll be having a special menu on Father's Day so that a person could have advance notice.

Linen covered tables, Cold AC a wine list that did not disappoint.
The calamari stake topped with scallops did not require a knife. Beyond description. T-Bone cooked medium rare to perfection. We meet the Chef who at 90 not only still hand cuts each stake he's grilling them. Service was attentive with our being overbearing. Very knowledgeable of the menu.
This will be the only go to stake house.

I'm torn on this place. The location and the decor/ambiance/seating arrangements... are all awful. The Portuguese Loaf bread was delicious. The soup was boring. the calamari was good...the salad was thrown together, little and unnecessary ... the filet mignon was meh... the lamb meh... the vegetables served with the steak were bland and not fully cooked. I usually never write negative reviews, however, my experience was negative from beginning to end. First, we walk in with reservations at 6pm. We are waived down at 6:15, yes, waived and not approached. Once seated, the place was hot and the seating as uncomfortable. You cannot have a conversation without everyone hearing. The people who were seated next to us had their candle start a small table fire. Chaos as all patrons used their glasses of water to put the fire out.

We went here today for our anniversary! We've eaten here a few times before and always enjoyed our meal. Tonight, my husband got the steak and lobster. Everything looked great but his lobster didn't really have any taste. After he salted it and had another bite, something was still off, so he smelled it straight up ammonia! He called over our waitress, who, by the way, was awsome, and she took the lobster to the back! My husband and I have been to this restaurant twice. Our first experience was a bit more pleasant than the our most recent one. We made a reservation a couple weeks in advance, and when we got there they said we weren't on their list. We almost thought they weren't going to let us in. The lady was nervously looking around like she wasn't sure what to do. After a few minutes she led us to a table.

Hello. My husband and I were just at your restaurant. We waited 1 hr 45 min for a med rare prime rib and a med rare filet mignon with lobster tail that never came. We finally had to leave. I have a baby sitter I'm paying for and this was just unacceptable. We watched 3 other tables who got there after us get their food. We were charged $60 for 2 beers and linguica bites!! That is absolutely ridiculous! My husband and I never get to go out like this. I'm a Delhi native and never had an opportunity to come eat here.
