After many years of sampling southern cuisine, I have learned you only get one chance to make southern cuisine enjoyable. There are no hidden secrets about it. You have to know what you want and how it should taste. In Louisiana, with one taste, you will recognize that our cuisine has its own style and flavor.

For every herb and blend of spices that are mixed, you are creating your own unique cuisine. Put us to the test and try our 10 hour Smoked Brisket! Whether it's Spicy Boiled Crawfish, Shrimp of Baton Rouge Pasta served in a Hearty White Sauce, or their mouth-watering Slow Smoked Baby Back Ribs with that famous "Come Back" Bar-B-Q Sauce, you can rest assure, it's going to be prepared with a savory flavor only found in Louisiana.

I was craving some brisket tonight after work. I had been eyeing this place down the street for awhile now.
Happy I did. Brisket certainly hit the spot where I needed it. For the sides, I got the mac and cheese and dirty rice.
Mac and cheese was really good too. Dirty rice was good too, but think I'll try a different side next time.

Definitely a healthy serving. Could easily share one with a friend, or life myself, taking the second half for lunch tomorrow.

The food here is amazing! I highly recommend the wings and the seafood platter. The baby back ribs are also delicious. Great spot for live music, ping pong and good times!

I really wanted to try this place but I did not get a warm welcome so I left. I completely understand the gentleman there was doing everything alone however he made me feel like I was a nuisance and was rushing me to order in a passive aggressive manner. I have heard the food was amazing and I'm sure it is. I'm just very particular about energies and this was bad vibes. Disappointed

Came here on recommendation of Yelp reviews. We had fried pickles, chicken tenders, brisket plate, pulled pork po'boy and the crawfish platter. It is kinda a one man show, but he does a great job. Would recommend checking it out if you are in town.

Pit and Peel is a great restaurant with genuine and authentic local staff, ownership and cuisine.. The dining room is clean and recently remodeled. We have eaten crawfish all across Louisiana and they have the largest crawfish by far.. The crawfish have a nice well balanced seasoning without being salty. The herbs and spices come through with each bite. The potatoes are tasty as well. We can't wait to sample other items on the menu including the brisket.

It's not fancy at all so I wasn't expecting it to be great. But I think it could be the best fried shrimp and fish I've ever had! The fish was light and moist and the crust was deliciously flavorful and crunchy. And the shrimp was deliciously flavorful and lightly crunchy too. My husband got a huge plate of boiled crawfish and he loved them. I think it would be really good for takeout. The prices are very reasonable!

Louisiana has a whole lot better places then here. My advise is to go to those other places. Came in from Texas with a big party, this place said they could accommodate us so we went. When we arrived yes they had tables set up for us and apparently shut the place down for us but yet other customers were still eating in there. As we sat down employees were running in and out of kitchen as of not knowing what to do. We had one waitress to our party of about 20 in which the waitress says she does not even work there anymore and was called in to help so was unsure of what they had available on the

Love this place! I have dined in with my husband a few times in the past and the owner is so hospitable! He always spends a little extra time chatting at the table and one night we came in for crawfish a little early so were hanging out waiting on them and he brought us some of his amazing fried honey shrimp! We add it to our orders now:) We got it delivered recently with covid and I switched up my order to the catfish and Mac n cheese and think it is my new favorite! There is not a lot of parking but it is off a residential street you can park on and takeout holds up from here so getting it to

Pit-N-Peel has the best homemade Mac n cheese I've ever had. On top of that, their crawfish is perfectly seasoned and their service is quick! During COVID, they took immediate safety precautions by having us wait (briefly) outside until other customers ordered, and handling to go orders quickly!

The crawfish are a nice size which is a plus. They are $2.49 a lb for boiled which is the cheapest I've found. If you like spicy they aren't spicy, but if you don't like spicy you might think they're spicy. They aren't the best, but for the price you can't beat it. I went twice because the first time I felt like they rushed the crawfish because every two crawfish had seasoning. The second time was definitely better, but a few weren't. The potatoes aren't seasoned. The customer service is ok. They get you in and out, but they are always on edge. Nothing friendly

Although the parking can be an issue because it's located on Government St., I had such a great experience here. The crawfish was delicious. I ordered a boiled seafood platter, which was about 3 pounds. They were seasoned very well. It wasn't too spicy where you can't enjoy them. The customer service was very good. I will most definitely return again!

I have nothing but good things to say about this place. The owner is nice, cooks the food himself, and is not shy about getting to know his guests. I know I was the only person in the place he didn't know. The ribs were the best I've had in a very long time. No BBQ sauce needed. The ribs seem to have been seasoned with a rub and the flavor was great. The catfish was no less satisfying. The mustard greens alone are worth coming back for!!! If you drive through Baton Rouge, you have to pull up, take a seat, loosen your belt, and dig in because this place is good. Don't be in a hurry, good food should

Great prices & even better food!! Walking into Pit-N-Peel felt like we went & sat at Vaughn's kitchen table. He was so nice & made sure we were completely satisfied. You can tell he's passionate about his work and will go above and beyond to succeed! We had two crawfish trays which were only $21.99 (wow!!!) for 3lbs with potatoes and a corn. Another party in our group got one of the specials for the day which was 4 catfish strips & 4 butterfly shrimp, plus a side of fries and a piece of cornbread for ONLY $9.89!

He also runs lots of specials during the week which include

Wow. We're on a road trip through Louisiana and have been trying a lot of places on the way but nothing can compare to this spot. We accidentally found it in a comment section on Reddit and so god that we made a little detour to try it out.

First of all, the baby back ribs were LITERALLY THE BEST ribs I've ever had. The meat was perfectly smoked, cooked, and was so soft that it slid right off the bone when we picked it up. We ordered two sides - beans and dirty rice, and both were great additions to the meal.

We also ordered the crawfish and shrimp boils...and my level of expectation

I came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch. Our server was very friendly and greeted us right away. The menu had a wide variety of foods--poboys, soups, salads, bbq and seafood.

I got the grilled catfish with sides of mustard greens and macaroni and cheese. The grilled catfish tasted fishy, which I know sounds silly, but it clearly tasted like it was old and needed to be tossed. My coworker also said his fried catfish special tasted odd as well. I was not a fan of that so I only ate about half of my fillet. The mustard greens were good although a bit too oily for my taste. The mac & cheese

Hubby wanted to try a new place. After looking through the news mobile app and finding the advertised price of $2.29/lb he chose this place.
Being that it's Mother's day they were only serving crawfish, BOO ! I guess I'm spoiled by Tony's serving everything all the time. I wanted catfish, shrimp and some boudin balls.
He got home with the crawfish, corn and potatoes. Crawfish was too spicy salty and mushy like they had been overcooked. Potatoes were a little undercooked with too much seasoning and corn was dry and salty. I didn't eat but 2 tails . I took a bite of potatoes

GREAT experience with the best customer service and biggest smile ever. Best price in town and worked with us to boil a batch after closing to accommodate out of town guests! Bugs were a touch small, but it's not even the beginning of the season y'all...keep the time of year in consideration for your expectations. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked along with the corn and potatoes (which will make my batch of corn and shrimp soup today!). The place was clean, cozy and inviting with an outdoor patio available in good weather. He even threw in a little Mardi Gras lagniappe for my step
