Services
Richard A. Mathes received his DVM degree from Oklahoma State University in 1991. After being in practice several years and experiencing frustration with the limitations of conventional medicine he began to pursue an interest in alternative healing techniques. Initially the IVAS course in Veterinary Acupuncture was completed in 1993 and then the chiropractic technique known as Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation was added.

I love Pumpkin Hill Vet! I have been bringing all of my pets here for 21 years! I even brought a Pheasant that was probably hit by a car as an emergency and they took care of him!
We now offer you an easier way to take care of your pet. Request appointments, medication refills and get alerts when your pet is coming due for medical care. The level of care and compassion from Dr. Mathes and the fabulous staff was amazing. Our dog Frankie loved going for acupuncture and when it was time to say goodbye to him, it couldn't have been more peaceful for our guy.
We drive 45 minutes to see Dr. Mathes, he is very caring and provides high quality holistic and conventional care. He never pushes unneeded treatments or vaccines. He is a class act guy and his staff couldn't be a better group of gals! Best vet in the world would go nowhere else I drive 2 hours to get there but to see the best it is well worth it these folk are amazing!
Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. When you arrive you are greeted by a kind and skilled staff.They reach out to you and your pet to make you feel comfortable. My German Shepherd loves this place. He struts in like it's his own home. To me that tells me he feels comfortable being with people he hardly knows. Coming from a security dog. But he trust them with a wagging tail and a kissing tongue. I truly believe he likes coming here for checkups.

I already loved these guys for how passionate and genuine they are with the care of both of my cats and dog. But I was blown away today (when I needed to bring my one year old nephew with me) with how patient, caring, and accommodating the entire staff was to keep the toddler entertained and keep my dog comfortable through his exam and even for the checkout process. Most professional and loving staff I've ever encountered anywhere! I'm so glad I switched to them!

Twice now Pumpkin Hill has missed a major issue with our fur baby Buster. A eye issue that could have lead to blindness and now an ear infection that has damaged BOTH eardrums. Thank god we got second opinions, which both times the issues were diagnosed within minutes of the exam starting. I will never take our fur babies there again ! 😡😡

Dr Mathes and his staff are all so patient, caring and devoted to their patients and owners. My favorite thing about Dr Mathes is the time, care and attention he takes whenever you visit. He went above and beyond with my dog Zoey, who came down with a mystery autoimmune disease last year. He heard me out and was willing to try everything we could… as there was no time or availability for us to get in to a dermatologist vet (she wouldn't have lasted that long). I'm happy to report our Zoey is strong, healthy and recovered after a long healing journey. Thank you Dr. Mathes and the folks at
