Established in 1927 the original Evanston Lock Shop began as a one person operation located in a garage behind the old Marshall Field building. The Johnson family purchased Evanston Lock Shop in 1944. During the last 75 years four Johnson generations have concentrated on meeting the security needs of North Shore residents and businesses.
Johnson Locksmiths relocated to its present site at 1557 Maple in 1952, where a fleet of service vehicles and experienced technicians are now at your at your service. Our store is located in downtown Evanston with a free convenient parking lot for our customers.

We furnish, service and install all types of security hardware in homes, businesses, multiple family dwellings, apartments and condominiums. We offer restricted key systerms, high security key systems and keyless entry systems, giving you control over who enters your home or business. We specialize in installing new entry mortise locks in place of old hardware.

I contacted a 24-hour company in Glenview. Owner came out right away, but took a couple of weeks to send a quote, claiming simple parts needed had to be ordered online. I realize now he was going to do a lot of unnecessary work and have me pay for it. I finally called Johnson's and in a couple of days services rendered and technician had parts already in his van. Repairs were done clean, smooth and locks/latches work so much better. Also, I paid about 30% less with Johnson's than what the other company quoted.

I was staying at a good friend's place for the weekend while she was out of town and we needed an extra set of keys for me due to timing differences. Literally no one in Chicago could make a copy of the front door key and we thought I was going to have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get a hotel instead. Johnson's to the rescue! Not only did they order the key and get it the next day but they copied it for us in literally less than a minute. The key itself cost $4 so this was not motivated by profit but rather old fashioned excellent customer service!

Best place to have your locks serviced. Have an old antique toolbox that needed the lock adjusted as the bar became loose. Fellow room Johnson's Lock came out to my car and adjusted it for me right then and there in less than 5 minutes.
Best part was he did everything in a friendly, professional, non-condescending manner. This goes a long way, especially when you see some of the other locksmith places reviews that say they received more attitude than friendly assistance.

If you're anywhere near Evanston, you'd be foolish to deal with any locksmith other than these guys! They're experts. We've been using them for years and they always do a good job, at a reasonable price. Yesterday the lock on my motor-scooter's gas cap was acting really flaky. (It would take several minutes of playing to get it to unlock.)

So I had ordered a motorcycle blank key from Bulgaria that I needed to copy. Went to a couple places and they couldn't. Came here and Patrick and the other gentlemen were extremely welcoming. I handed over the keys and after about 15 seconds he came out and handed me the keys back all finished. I said "how much do I owe you?" To what he responded "don't worry about it, it was only 10 seconds " ! How amazing are these individuals. He could have easily charged me something anything. But he didn't. That speaks to what kind of people they are and the business! Truly

This company is really great. I had an old door with a very rare lock that wasn't working. I tried replacing with a newer version which took forever to find and the new lock did not fit in the current holes. I wasn't happy about making new holes in my door so I tried finding a locksmith who could repair the original lock. After several locksmiths, this company was able to repair it and was very reasonable with the cost, its hard to believe but the repair was cheaper than the new lock i had purchased. Its great to have businesses like this still around.

I was disappointed to hear my mother's story about making a copy of her mailbox key. When she tried it, the wrong key blank had been used and it didn't go in the lock. They redid the key. The new key fit the lock but didn't work, didn't unlock the lock. When she went back, they got upset at her (like SHE did something wrong!?) When she asked for her money back, they got really mad. The owner came out and yelled at her before finally throwing her money at her.
My mom is an 80 year woman who just wanted a key that works. Is that really the professional way to deal with the problem
