My name is Michelle, and I own and operate Path to Vitality Acupuncture. I've always been deeply drawn to the art of medicine. Even as a child, I recall thumbing through my mother's medical books in wonderment. I continued this interest through my adult studies and soon became interested in Chinese medicine for the same reason many do: out of intrigue and desperation.
Moxibustion is a technique often used with acupuncture. It uses heat to provide strong stimulation of an acupuncture point. Moxa is an herb (mugwort) that when burned, is deeply penetrating. Moxa is either placed directly on top of an acupuncture needle and burned or is rolled into a stick which is lit and waved over a specific treatment area for several minutes.
Auriculotherapy is a form of acupuncture based on the theory that the ear is a microsystem that reflects the entire body, including our muscles, skeletal structure, organs, and glands. Other structures such as the scalp, face, hands, feet and long bones of the body also follow this principle, but only the outer ear (auricle) is used in acupuncture.
The positive effects of physical activity are well studied and pleasantly experienced by the exerciser. From improving brain health and sleep, reducing the risk of chronic disease, building stronger muscles and bones and increasing pain tolerance, exercise helps us feel happier too! We will look at the forms of exercise you participate in and address any modifications as necessary.
Chinese herbal medicine dates back to 1,000 BC. It consists of over 5,000 substances derived from plant, animal and mineral sources. Herbal medicine is powerful and highly versatile in it's ability to treat a variety of diseases. Traditionally, herbs were boiled with water and made into a tea which was consumed throughout the day.
