Jo Ann Yoga
Jo Ann offers therapeutic yoga based on B. K. S. Iyengar tradition in Santa Fe and Los Alamos. Jo Ann was trained in the Iyengar tradition and started to practice yoga in the '80s, initially with B. K. S. Iyengar in the US, then subsequently with Ramanand Patel in the US and India. In her yoga practice, Jo Ann emphasizes the power of breathing, while offering individual attention and guidance leading students towards healing and strength.
Services
Jo Ann's methodical yoga instruction is personalized to every level of practice and addresses students' needs for relaxation and stretching muscles while increasing their physical strength. Every class and special workshop will introduce you to the world of deliberate relaxation while exploring your body's abilities and overcoming physical limitations.
During each class, students will follow asana, which is a sequence of movements and breathing techniques, and which Jo Ann may adjust to your ability or physical need. In fact, asana means "comfortable seat", and so you will get the body ready to sit comfortably in preparation to align your body and mind, and prepare it for meditation.
Prenatal yoga is an excellent way to stay in shape during pregnancy. Jo Ann will guide you through countless poses to improve strength and flexibility for this very special period in your life. Most importantly you will learn breathing techniques that will help your muscles stay relaxed and help you reduce tension throughout your body.
The daily yoga practice is designed exclusively for you, and with each new breath, it is an opportunity for rejuvenation. In our busy lives, daily routines are important, and simple sequences, when practiced consistently, can provide grounding, openness, and help bring a little more ease and happiness into our lives.
Yet, it is important that you have your own props and continue the healing and restorative work on your own time and in your own environment. I love Jo Ann's studio in Santa Fe, it's a wonderful place to practice yoga. However, most often I participate in her classes in Los Alamos on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and alternate Fridays. With each class I take my body relaxes more and more. I cannot thank Jo Ann enough for all her detailed instruction that pushes my body towards a healthier state.
