Preschool in the Village is an independent, non-profit early childhood education center, supporting families in Amherst and surrounding towns since 1995. We offer half-day learning programs for children 3 to 6 years old. We provide options for learning a skill or engaging in an activity, so all children can participate.
Our theme based curriculum balances school readiness skills with a social and emotional foundation. The daily routine includes outside play, teacher-directed learning, group activities, and free choice time. Literacy, math, and science concepts are embedded in the activities, with opportunities for creative exploration and expression.

Our theme based curriculum balances school-readiness skills with a social and emotional foundation, and is grounded in developmentally appropriate practices for each age group. Curriculum enrichment includes monthly music classes, science lessons with a naturalist from Beaver Brook Association, and story time with the town librarian.
Tina has been a teacher at PIV since 2004 and became the director in 2016, combining her teaching experience with a background in project and business management. Tina's favorite book to read aloud (with a southern accent) is Epossumondas Saves the Day by Coleen Salley. Carrie has worked at PIV since 1998, and believes that children learn best in a nurturing environment where they can explore, experiment, and be creative.
