Master Lockhart has been training in Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan for over 30 years. He is a certified Master Instructor, holds a Degree in Psychology from UC Irvine and has been teaching Martial Arts and Self-Defense classes for the local school districts since 1996. Master Lockhart is a multi-time National Champion who has trained thousands of students to become stronger and more focused people.
Lockhart's Karate Academy has become one of the leading martial arts schools in Aliso Viejo, CA, as our experienced instructors provide students with the support they need to excel. While it's true that martial arts like Tae Kwon Do can be used for self-defensive purposes, far more often, our students come to us because they're interested in a really great workout that exercises practically every part of the body.
To most people, the words "self defense" conjure up a wide array of violent mental images. People think of boxing matches, karate films and no-holds-barred street fights. In actuality these images completely misrepresent the essence of what self defense really means. To defend oneself does not necessitate an act of violence.
Many people think that self-defense classes are meant to teach you how to fight, but that's only in the worst case scenario. In reality, self defense actually means doing everything in your power to avoid getting into a fight. Although combat technique is an important part of our self-defense courses, we also teach a wide array of skills that can help you steer clear of a fight in the first place.

Enrolling in martial arts classes was something that I had been interested in but, unfortunately; could not find the time. After retiring, I went about researching an appropriate facility and found that Lockhart's Karate Academy met my requirements. I encouraged my wife to join me in these classes since she is only 4' 11" tall and I wanted her to be able to protect herself in all scenarios.

I highly recommend Lockhart's Karate Academy for anyone looking to build their children's confidence while also teaching excellent life skills such as patience, organization and more. Our son Kai looks forward to going to class every Monday and Friday and we can visibly see how he's matured since he began attending Lockhart's Karate Academy. Dan and his daughter and staff our excellent and your child will be in great hands with them.

My two kids have been studying with Master Lockhart for over 3 years now. It has been an important part of their lives since the beginning. Master Lockhart and Ms. Lockhart have been nothing short of amazing. My kids will easily skip on various activities, but would not miss their Karate class. They have love the fun, encouraging, and challenging environment. Would strongly recommend to anyone.

My son just started at Lockhart's Karate Academy and absolutely loves it. He looks forward to his classes and has grown so much in not just his physical abilities but attention span & confidence in the short time he's been taking lessons. Master Lockhart & all the instructors are fun and kind but firm. They set realistic expectations and make sure the kids follow through. I would definitely recommend Lockhart's Karate Academy to anyone who is looking for a martial arts studio.

My three kids aged 11, 9 and 6 have been going to Master Lockhart's karate studio for almost 2 years. It has been a wonderful experience for my kids all along. They look forward to their karate classes. They are learning some great life skills while having fun. Mater Lockhart is really good with the kids. All the other instructors are also very good! Highly recommend this place!!!!

Lockhart's Karate Academy in Aliso Viejo is absolutely amazing! They have become like family to many students! My daughter is now a senior in college and we have known Dan since she was in Jr high. He is a great person who teaches more than just karate. He teaches values, commitment, respect and much more to the kids that attend his studio. He makes sure everyone feels welcome and that they are part of a family it is not just a place they go a few times a week. Lockhart's Karate Academy makes a difference in people’s lives.

I am truly grateful to Master Lockhart and his entire staff. He is a phenomenal instructor and caring person. My son's entire attitude, focus and confidence have changed since starting at this studio (3 months ago). Master Lockhart really takes the time to get to know each child and their individual needs and follows through on everything. He does an amazing job at teaching the kids to evaluate themselves and share with him their thoughts on their performing---I found this to be extremely effective as I am a firm believer in teaching my son to be the judge of himself which I think is essential

Master Lockhart is an amazing instructor and his teachings go way beyond karate. He teaches discipline, respect, focus, and self control in a trusting, fun environment. He has the ability to discipline kids in a firm, yet caring manner that is very effective. He knows each individual child so well and has a high level of expectation that is challenging, yet achievable and empowering; allowing kids to reach their fun potential and building self confidence.
