The concierge was impeccable she has provided a great service the whole time that we were not able to get in and see our loved one she made us feel comfortable knowing that I'd love one was doing okay because we couldn't get in there the concierge is a person that needs to be implemented and to all of the nursing home

It’s ironic, I lost a lot of sleep when the hospital first told me that mom had to be transferred to Van Duyn Rehab & Nursing Center in Syracuse, NY.
Mom was not ready to go home yet, but medically, there is nothing that the hospital can do, except recommend sending her to a Rehab Center.
We've heard of the News about Van Duyn being investigated and considered as one of the worst Rehab/Nursing Centers in NY.
Everyone (and I mean everyone in my family & close friends) insisted NOT to take her there but I had no other choice because there were NO other rehab centers in Onondaga County that could

This is an edit of my original post made yesterday. The last four paragraphs are new. These are areas I neglected which I meant to address in my original post.
My name is Frank Brown and I’ve called Van Duyn home since October 16, 2020. I’ve been extremely vocal since my stay here. Articles have appeared in print with my name and experiences which were less than flattering about Van Duyn. My experiences here have not always been the greatest. I would however like to publicly state the following:
After doing very intense research on Van Duyn and really digging into New York State Nursing Homes

The good reviews are from the rehab floor that was redone and is well taken care of. Every other floor is disgusting and has roaches and my grandmother had to wait forever each time she had to go to the bathroom. Lots of times she had accidents because people wouldn’t come soon enough or sometimes not at all. I am disgusted about the new articles that have come out about abuse however I am not surprised. I have come in contact with several extremely rude ones that I would not want taking care of me. I have seen one woman burn someone she had to feed with food and then when she wouldn’t eat

Don’t normally write reviews…but my cousin is in this facility. He got transferred from Upstate hospital. I am terrified for his life here..neglect, abuse. My fear is I won’t ever see him again.. due to no visitors allowed and the way he gets treated. I sent in a letter to get this place not only investigated but shut down. Please help my cousin, and other patients.

I'm acutely aware of the articles recently written about Van Duyn and would like to offer a view into some of the excellence that the Nursing home provides.
I'm currently on the rehab floor of the center as a result of a severe injury. I needed wound care along with physical and occupational therapy. Prior to coming to Van Duyn I had spent 5 weeks in bed due to 7 operations on my arm. The result was a weakening of my legs to the extent that I was unable to stand or walk.
The rehab department quickly changed that. The rehab department at Van Duyn is not only excellent but they are also compassionate

I do NOT recommend this place at all. Years ago my father was there, he was mistreated by his nurse and over medicated so they could manage him. More like so they didn't have to do their job.
Now my brother is there and it's even worse. They don't help him, more like ignore him, social workers, nurses, and administration don't return phone calls. It's impossible to make an appointment to see him because nobody will return my calls or emails. Then when and if I get to see him it's for a whole 1/2 hour. WOW!! Plus at each visit you have to be tested for covid. Really?? So VanDuyn is basically saying

DO NOT LET YOUR LOVE ONES GO TO THIS FACILITY!!!! My mother was a patient for a week and had to transfer because of the dangerous and unprofessional situations. They tried to delay the transfer until I threatened to call the Health Department.
I had to be an advocate for my mothers care because of their lack of care. They didn't give my mother any of her prescriptions until I called and asked. They literally started ignoring her as punishment for my calls. After removing her neck bra e for a broke neck, the head nurse threw her brace at her legs and walked out telling her to put it on herself

My mother was discharged from Van Duyn last week. She was there for 3.5 weeks. Overall we were very satisfied with the stay. Nursing and medical staff were very professional and knowledgeable. Discharge instructions and education went well for my wife and I so we could care for her in our home. She was not a fan of the food but she is back walking pain free and ready to come live with us.
