US Kuoshu Academy
At the U.S. Kuo Shu Academy (USKSA), we offer classes for men, women, and children of all ages and ability levels in an atmosphere of respect, discipline, and camaraderie. Through this ancient practice, our goal is to help individuals train their mind, body, and spirit to reach their maximum potential.

Since 1973, we have produced national, international, and world champions. We have received a commendation from multiple Presidents of the United States for our dedication to excellence. We are proud of our history and look forward to continuing to develop some of the most exceptional students in the world.
Services
We teach a Chinese system of martial arts called Tien Shan Pai. Tien Shan Pai is an internationally recognized system that consistently produces students of the highest quality. Whether you are interested in self defense, confidence, getting a great workout, relieving stress, or even becoming a world champion, Tien Shan Pai has something to offer everyone.
Have you been searching for a great children's karate or children's martial arts studio and just are not sure where to turn? Or maybe, you are looking for a sport or extracurricular activity that is right for your child and haven't found the perfect fit. Children's Martial Arts at the U.S. Kuo Shu Academy are anything but an ordinary sport or extra-curricular activity.
At the U.S. Kuo Shu Academy, we teach a complete program in traditional Chinese martial arts. In the United States, these practices are sometimes called "Kung Fu." At the beginner level, the Kung Fu program includes stretching and warm-up exercises, striking and self-defense techniques, joint locks and prearranged sequences of techniques which we call "forms."
From an outsider's perspective, martial arts in general appear to be a very "external" activity. But nothing could be further from the truth. All styles of Chinese martial arts have elements that are both "internal" and "external, " however some focus more on one than the other.

The arts of Tai Ji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan), Xing Yi Quan (Hsing I Chuan), and Ba Gua Zhang (Pa Kua Chang) are considered "internal, " focusing on the use of meditative practices and full body coordination. Each of these internal martial arts emphasizes specific characteristics that give them a unique flavor and appearance.
At the U.S. Kuo Shu Academy (USKSA), we offer classes for men, women, and children of all ages and ability levels in an atmosphere of respect, discipline, and camaraderie. Grandmaster Huang has been promoting the art of Tien Shan Pai since his arrival in the United States in 1973. Since then we have produced national, international, and world champions.

My son joined U.S. Kuo Shu Academy 1 year ago, & I couldn't imagine him practicing/learning anywhere else. The way in which the instructors are beyond dedicated & personable with the students is so amazing. I greatly appreciate Master Huang for ensuring my son's continuance & elevation at U.S. Kuo Shu Academy. I greatly appreciate Ms. Haley giving my son private lessons & for Shi Fu Anderson's evaluation. My son started during the pandemic, took classes virtually, & thrived rapidly. Due to the instructors vigilance & guidance, my son was able to advance quickly. Again, I'm so grateful to U.S. Kuo

My son was in here for almost a month , this place seem good but the communication here is horrible. My child instructor didn’t take the necessary time out for us to sit down and unenroll my child from the program. Because times was getting a little tough so I had to prioritize things and had to figure out the things that needed to stay as well as the things that needed to go snd karate class at the moment was one of those things that had to go. However my child instructor Mr. Anderson told me he was too busy to unenroll my child which only took a few minutes to do. He made it seem like it was

I've been studying at U.S. Kuo Shu Academy for about six years now, and I am so impressed by the depth of knowledge that the instructors at this school have. This is truly a traditional Chinese martial arts school.
I have been learning Tai Ji Quan from this school, and it's exactly the type of Tai Ji I was looking for. Not just the basic stuff you learn from a community center or gym, but true in-depth knowledge of the martial aspects of tai chi and how it builds the inner energy, the chi. There's meditation, Qi Gong and weapons work, too!
Everyone at the school is so supportive of the students

My sons and I have been at USKSA for over two years training in Kung Fu and Tai Ji Quan. It's a wonderful community of people and the classes are great with a variety of self-defenses, sparring, forms with and without weapons, and meditation. There's so much to learn and you'll see and feel the progression within just a few weeks but never get bored for years to come.
Best of all, there's a place for everyone - no matter your abilities. Each person is physically and mentally challenged in their own ways and
USKSA really promotes that this is your journey to take and they're there to support you

My children and I have been privileged and honored to train with Grandmaster Huang for many years through numerous seminars. The opportunity to train with him is invaluable given his wealth of knowledge and dedication in traditional Chinese martial arts, focusing on mind, body & spirit. We have known Grandmaster Huang, Master Michael Huang, and their instructor staff for more than 14 years, and we hold them in the highest regard. Their dedication to martial arts and their students is exceptional. U.S. Kuo Shu Academy is not a fly-by-night school that is here today and gone tomorrow. It has

I started at US Kuo Shu back in 2015 as therapy after being hit by a car. USKSA was instrumental in my physical recovery, and did a lot for my mental health as immediately following my accident, I was not able to do a lot of the physical activity that I was used to doing. Participating in this school restored faith in myself as well as my physical ability; I have actually exceeded my own expectations of my physical ability by learning a variety of weapons, jumping kicks, and competitive sparring. Even as I started kung fu in my mid 30s, I have to say I am actually in better shape now than I was

During the pandemic US Kuo Shu Academy provided virtual classes to affiliated schools like mine, IFC Martial Arts & Fitness in Gaithersburg, MD. I truly appreciated their kind support during this difficult time. US Kuo Shu Zoom classes helped keep me inspired and motivated to practice while my school was closed for in person classes. I highly recommend US Kuo Shu Academy their teachers are extremely professional, thorough and fun! Thank you US Kuo Shu Academy

I highly recommend this school if you are in the Maryland area as you have an incredible opportunity to train at US Kuoshu Academy. I have had the opportunity to learn from Grandmaster Huang over the past 20-years when he comes out to California to teach seminars to our black belts and students, and I make it a priority to not miss a single one. The US Kuoshu Academy instructors are excellent martial artists, not to mention they are also all around great people.

I have been traveling to MD annually since 1999 to take part in the International Kuoshu tournament which is hosted by the U.S Kuo Shu Academy. The reason I make this trip each year is due to the quality of the tournament, the people and the martial arts. Grandmaster Huang wisdom and knowledge is unparalleled, and I always thoroughly enjoy taking seminars hosted by Grandmaster Huang and watching his students and staff compete and demonstrate. My training with Grandmaster Huang has been invaluable, and my experience of the U.S. Kuo Shu Academy students and staff is of the highest quality.

I have been studying martial arts sporadically since I was very young, and I did quite extensive research on schools when I decided to settle in the area after college. I was looking for a very knowledgeable Tai chi instructor.

One of my friends and I went to visit US Kuoshu Academy just to see what it was like. I was impressed with the friendly, encouraging, and knowledgeable instructor who greeted me when we walked in.

The school has two workout rooms. A padded floor on one, and carpet over pad in the other. Reasonably spacious, and well kept, though the pads do show the wear and tear

I've been a student here for almost 7 years. The first 5 years were spent commuting all the way from Laurel several times a week to take classes. That should tell you just how wonderful the program and the staff are. The experience of learning Tai Chi at this school has been simply life changing. I went from a casual student to a competitor in the tournaments over the last 5 years as well - something I thought I'd never do! But that's just what USKA does, ait inspires you to achieve goals and maximize your potential in so many ways. These are qualities that transfer outside of the

I've been studying Tai Chi and Hsing-I at this school for over six years and love every single minute. The head instructor, Grandmaster Huang Chien Liang, is a truly world renowned martial artist who has been teaching for over 40 years. The senior instructors are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I've grown tremendously over the past six years and have seen the same growth in my fellow classmates. The school also offers programs in adult Kung Fu and kids Kung Fu. Highly recommended.

We have 2 kids who have taken kung fu here for nearly 3 years and they have benefited tremendously from it. They learn many ways of defending themselves, gain self-confidence and improve many aspects of their physical well-being (strength, flexibility, etc.) and learn discipline and self-motivation. The school has many world-champion instructors and a very well-thought-out curriculum.
