We are a bare bones fitness center that focuses on you and your workout or training. We do not promote belts quickly and easily, you have to work for them and put in the time. John Shaddock wanted to build a place that he would like to workout in himself. Having worked in the fitness business for over 25 years, he found weight lifting and aerobics classes to be boring. He had enjoyed the training involved in martial arts, and wanted to find a way to teach both fitness and respect.
I have been training with John for 10 months now and have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I was looking for a way to get fit while improving upon my self defense abilities. I assumed I would start off as the new guy who stayed to himself and tried not to mess up and look silly. However, I found myself in a truly welcoming environment, and I couldn't help but have a good time while getting a great workout.

Shaddock MMA has been nothing short of exceptional! Started out as a way to help my kids learn some basic self defense and now it has become part of our normal Tuesday Thursday routine. My kids look forward to going to class as the other members have been awesome.

My son has been taking classes here for 2 years. It is often the highlight of his week and one of the only things he doesn't want to miss. In addition to learning martial arts skills, my son is learning a lot about discipline and respect. Coach Shaddock does a wonderful job of balancing all of these skills. We Hope to continue for many years to come. Highly recommended!

I came into Shaddock MMA looking for a challenge and my training preference has been Jiu Jitsu.The first night I met Coach John I was only expecting to talk with him but he immediately threw me a Gi and had me on the mat rolling with everyone else and learning techniques. At that moment I knew this was where I needed to be, everyone was welcoming, the atmosphere was intense but fitting for the training. I am still new to the program and coach does not hesitate to go over things twice to make sure you understand. I recommend this gym to anyone who would not only like to lose weight or learn self

My son did kid classes when he was little and loved them. Then we signed him up again to gain some confidence….middle school years can be hard! He has changed so much since he started back up! He’s growing in multiple aspects, strength, endurance, commitment and more! Coach teaches more than just fitness and is dedicated to his students no matter your age! He always communicates and is looking for feedback to make sure you are getting what you need. I love that it’s a small local gym with lots of times to find classes that work for you. Would highly recommend!!

I joined the Shaddock MMA Fitness family in June 2018, and it has been a life changing experience to say the least. I started training Jiu Jitsu and boxing here initially quite overweight and within a matter of 6 months I was down nearly 50 pounds and in the best shape of my life. A great thing about the classes is you go at your own pace, so when I first joined, I started slow and was able to work my way up to a high intensity after I got use to the workouts. I have been lifting weights and training most of my life and this is by far my favorite type of workout as there is never a boring class

I’ve been training at Shaddock MMA for about 6 or 7 years now and I have enjoyed every minute. John Shaddock is very personable and very positive. Through this whole Pandemic issue, John Shaddock adapted and moved to an online curriculum to help people keep training. John’s curriculum is great for all skill levels be it a beginner or experienced. Not only can he teach you Boxing, wrestling, and jujitsu but he will help condition you and get you in great shape. All in all this is a fantastic school for all ages and experience levels. I highly recommend it.

Hidden gem in Eldersburg, MD. I had no idea that this place existed until I joined a local mom's facebook group. He holds events for both kids and adult's and that is how I ended up doing the kick boxing class. I had a lot of fun doing this and only wish that I as a busy mom had more time for me to take other classes here. I did enroll my daughter in Jujitsu and she is having a blast! She really likes learning new techniques and when its time to test, she gets excited about getting a new stripe. I would highly recommend taking a class here. He allowed me to have my youngest daughter
